Garrett and Stephen said it right out.

The chart is wrong and we did better than we should have.

Position flex is how they are justifying this.

Idiots.

Trade was setup before the draft with sf.....our guys were gone.

Dbair, how do you know that Callahan really likes him? And can Callahan only implement his zone blocking scheme with a first round drafted Center?

40 passes a game x 7 step drops = good chance of a defense finding a way to overload the OL, several times a game.

Pay attention. They are spelling it out right now.

I don't buy he us a center here. I bet he is a guard and bumps livings.

Frederick-costa-Mack with kowalski and Leary as backups

Jerry: "We felt generally better about our tackles than we do in the middle."

Are they really going to run Free back out there again?

There was some posts about it after one of the allstar games, might have been the Senior Bowl

The chart we all see probably is wrong, but they still didn't get enough.

One of Frederick's strengths is that he's mobile, something that NFLDraftScout.com's Dane Brugler noted in his predraft rankings, "Mobile enough to get to the second level and block in space. Thick upper body with the base strength to anchor off the snap and hold his ground." The Cowboys will be looking for consistency at center next season and Frederick could supply that.

Im not upset about the pick. Yeah he was a reach by about 20 picks but so what? If he's the guy you think can start for 10 years then that's a small price to pay. I think he's going to be a very solid anchor.

We can still get Cyprien in a trade up.

Who would you rather have. Elam and Shwenke or Frederick or Cyprien?

From Prisco:

Cowboys select: Travis Frederick, C, Wisconsin
I really like this Frederick pick. They have major issues inside and he can play center or guard.

No way about Costa at center. He had way more Redskin games than he did Raven games. And not from injury. he is just not an immovable center. His shotgun snaps were almost as bad as Gurode's. Maybe Costa is the Guard.

Even though its a reach it's hilarious that so many people are bitching that we ACTUALLY GO OLINE. It's not like the guy is a 4th round small school project.

You guys bang the table for Oline from Jerry and he gives it to you then you bitch because hes a guy you havnt seen on YouTube yet. Idiots

I think Costa either becomes the backup swing interior guy or is on the street after preseason.

And there it is,...

He would have been gone by 48.

Who needs first round picks....

And who exactly did we miss out on? lol Floyd? Elam? Spare me. Those guys are going to be marginal in the NFL. We got a nice Oline prospect. I'll take it.

They have him the #1 C, 53rd overall prospect. Here's the write up

03/07/2013 - 2013 Wisconsin Pro Day: In addition to Ball, Badgers seniors taking part included center Travis Frederick, tackle Ricky Wagner, cornerbacks Devin Smith and Marcus Cromartie and safety Shelton Johnson. Linebacker Mike Taylor is still recovering from sports hernia surgery and participate. Frederick and Wagner did not run but took part in drills with Miami Dolphins offensive line coach Jim Turner. Frederick had a chance to re-run the 40 after covering it in 5.8 seconds at the combine, but he said he was more interested in showing the scouts how sound his technique is as a blocker.
"I want to show I'm talented at what an offensive lineman does," Frederick said. "It's not that often you see an offensive lineman running 40 yards down the field, unless your running back scored, in which case you can trot down the field. "But I was just trying to show them the things that are important for us." Frederick said his time in the first 10 yards of the 40-yard dash at the combine was acceptable and he thought it showed what kind of athlete he is. - Tom Silverstein, The Journal Sentinel

Overview

With Kevin Zeitler and Peter Konz gone to the NFL, Frederick is the lone returning member of the Badgers interior offensive line in 2012. And Frederick, who will move from left guard to center as a junior this season, could end up being the best of the three.

Despite being only a two-star recruit out of Big Foot high school in Wisconsin, he impressed the Badgers' coaching staff during a summer camp and earned a scholarship offer.

Frederick became the first true freshman offensive lineman to start the season opener in school history, starting four games (two at center, two at left guard) in 2009.

After redshirting in 2010, he started 13 games as a sophomore last season, 11 games at left guard before moving inside to center for the final two contests, earning Second Team All-Big Ten honors.

Analysis

POSITIVES: Top-notch football IQ and overall intelligence to recognize what the defense is doing and adjust the offensive line accordingly. Has bulked up and added bulk to his frame, carrying his weight well for a 335-plus pounder. Mobile enough to get to the second level and block in space. Thick upper body with the base strength to anchor off the snap and hold his ground.

Works hard with his technique and doesn't make many mistakes. Fights with a finishing attitude and understands different scenarios, keeping his head on a swivel. Better foot quickness and agility for a blocker with his size.

Comes from a program known for producing NFL-quality offensive linemen and has starting experience at both guard and center. High character individual and very coachable.

NEGATIVES: Lacks elite athleticism and has some stiffness in his hips. Needs to keep his weight in check to stay mobile. Susceptible to explosive interior linemen off the snap and needs to set up quicker to gain position and block off-balance.

COMPARES TO: John Moffitt, OL, Seattle Seahawks - Like Moffitt, Frederick lined up at both guard and center over his Wisconsin career, flashing the same sound technique and powerful base.

Here’s the initial analysis from Valley Ranch:

Ed Cahill: The best center in the draft. The Cowboys were known to covet Wisconsin's center Peter Konz last season, and they go ahead and select his successor this season. He has lined up at both guard and center, but has show a good football IQ with great upper and lower body strength. I think he'll be a good anchor for the Cowboys offensive line moving forward. The questions will be where the Cowboys project him, center or guard?

Nick Eatman: Obviously, this is disappointing for a lot of Cowboys fans who had high hopes for a better player. But, offensive line help was needed and they got it. One thing I always say about taking guards and centers in the first round, you usually get the best ones in the draft. And they did with Frederick. Is it enough consolation? Not sure. I think had the Cowboys gotten more in the trade, it would’ve been a better move. But if you take a center 31st overall, he starts. So that should be an upgrade right there.

Rowan Kavner: The Cowboys passed on one of the draft’s highest ranked defensive lineman to move down, add a third round pick and take a center that couldn’t have been on many first-round draft boards. The addition of Travis Frederick addresses a need on the offensive line, although when Phil Costa was healthy against the Ravens the line looked better than it did all season. It certainly was an unexpected pick and first day as a whole.

David Helman: Truth be told, my initial reaction to the selection of Wisconsin center Travis Frederick was “Who?” Somehow he managed to avoid every bit of pre-draft coverage I digested. He’s definitely not a sexy or exciting pick, but he could be the interior line help the Cowboys were looking for. If new Minnesota defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd, who could have been headed to Dallas as the 18th pick, winds up having a better career than Frederick, Dallas and its front office won’t hear the end of it.

Bryan Broaddus: I honestly was surprised they traded back in this draft. They didn’t value defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd as much as I did. I thought he would have been an outstanding fit in this scheme but that’s not the case. I believe they lost out on Slyvester Williams as well to take a center that had his moments where he didn’t play as well on tape. I believe that Frederick was their highest ranked linemen on the board which is why they made the pick. This will be an opportunity for Bill Callahan to work to develop him the best he can.
