You guys can chill... These all sound like typical training camp strains. Not worried about these "injuries" unless they're torn knee ligaments, popped achilles, or snapped bones that are season-ending or at least take months of recovery time. Miles barely even needs training camp, especially the first week or two. Spears doesn't either, though I'm hoping he doesn't even make the team.

It would suck a lot more if these things happened in the last preseason game or something where they had to miss a real game. Right now it's no biggie.

It's a lot of guys who need reps

Mo
Livings
Bernie
Killa
Johnson
Etc..can't even remember them all

if the injuries are what they say they are then yes they should clear up and be no issue.

The team has not been honest about this stuff for a while though, everyone is always a few days away or one week away and miss much more time. Claiborne had a serious limp and was walking like a guy who isnt playing football anytime soon.

the mini camps and ota's were littered with guys who were injured and ready for camp....now most of those guys are still injured and missing...

and most of all, they have not done anything physical yet outside of one practice in pads and they have all these problems.

As far as spears goes, I really dont see how he makes the team honestly. He makes too much money and if the rest of the guys are healthy it would seem they can do what he does in the running game. I would feel better about the run d if he were here though.

That's nuts..must be suicide or OD

could be. Or he could have done alot of damage to his body before when he was on drugs I guess and had a heart attack or something.

Injecting heroin with a needle like he did is basically a death sentence.

Why don't you want Spears to make the team?

Just think he's JAG and way overrated. And I was a huge fan of his when we drafted him. But he's a big bag of average who says a few good things to the media so people think he's way better than he is. I'm hoping the DL is Rat, Hatcher, Lissemore, Brent, the rookie, and Geathers.

And the only injuries that matter so far IMO are Claiborne - but he'll still be perfectly fine - and maybe Phillips. We were thin at TE anyway and if that's a high ankle sprain we're going to have to bring in at least one more guy. Wish we'd bid a little more for that Chicago TE, but I thought that anyway.

Carter turns in today's big play on defense from Cowboys camp

The defensive highlight of the afternoon practice came from linebacker Bruce Carter, who stepped in front of a Tony Romo pass during a red-zone drill and was headed for a pick-six when the play was blown dead.

It was the type of play coaches have been expecting to see from Carter since he was taken in the second round of the 2011 draft. But the North Carolina product was limited to 10 games last season (no starts) because of a knee injury that lingered from his college days.

“I’m just trying to show the coaches I can play. To compete as much as I can. I’m a playmaker,” Carter said.

What happened on the interception?

“Just a basic drop and I read where Tony’s eyes were going and the ball fell in my lap,” Carter sai

Im really excited about bruce carter. If he wouldnt have been injured he wouldnt be a cowboy today plain and simple. The guy has top 10 talent. Deunta Williams was the same way. Too bad his injury forced him to give up football.

Carter and Lee are going to be the cornerstone of the defense. Jerry and the cowboys have done a great job past few years loading up talent on the defense. Lee Carter Carr Claiborne Lissemore Crawford Wilber are all early 20's and Carr is the oldest at 26. Thats some serious talent for the years to come. Ware is 29 i think he still has another 5 yrs at top level play. Next yr with a S in the 1st round and OLB in rd 2 i think this defense could be something special

I know alot of people expect every player and pick to pan out but 7 players on defense alone in the last 3 drafts/FA is something to brag about.

I don't know how Spears is overrated. I don't know of anyone who hypes him up. At least not on this site.

I'm torn on Spears. On the one hand, I like his leadership, and I'd like for a former first rounder to stick around. On the other hand, yeah, you kind of know what he is, which is steady, and it'd be good to go with a younger guy with more upside.

I guess I'd be okay either way.

1 thing I liked from Saturday is Felix and Murray in backfield at same time.

Cowboys have 18 injured players
August, 5, 2012

By Calvin Watkins | ESPNDallas.com

OXNARD, Calif. -- The Cowboys have 18 players nursing injuries heading into the Blue and White scrimmage Sunday afternoon.

Of those players, seven are projected starters and two are backups who will get extensive playing time such as Mike Jenkins and John Phillips.

"I think injuries are a part of NFL training camps and they've always been a part of NFL training camps and I think sometimes when you have injuries at certain positions that becomes that rash and that bad luck thing that we're talking about the other day," coach Jason Garrett said. "Certainly in the interior of the offensive line we've had different guys get banged up in different ways and you just have to manage it and make the most of your next best decision as a coaching staff as to how to bring these guys back and who we replace them with."

The injuries forced the Cowboys to bring in some players for workouts.

It also makes Sunday's scrimmage a little more interesting in terms of the younger players who are injured. This is their first major chance to impress the coaches and scouts, but with them out, it allows someone else to get valuable snaps.

Garrett and his staff will have to juggle snaps for some veteran and first-and-second year players because of the injuries.

"It impacts it a great deal," Garrett said. "It's a situational day for most of the veteran players and really the essence of this thing in terms of why we call it a Blue-White scrimmage is to get the younger guys a chance to play contact football and tackle to the ground. We reassessed it and we're thinning out some of the periods, we're taking out a couple of periods, the structure will be the same, we're just trying to limit some of the reps."

Some updates on the injured:

*Miles Austin will miss about a week with his hamstring injury.
*Phillip Tanner went to Dallas to get surgery on his broken hand.
*Kevin Kowalski (ankle) and Bill Nagy (ankle) will be out for a couple of weeks.
*Nate Livings (hamstring) needs another week before he can return.
*Mackenzy Bernadeau (knee and hip) could return next week.
*Danny Coale (foot) should be ready early next week.
*Anthony Spencer (hamstring), Jason Hatcher (hamstring) Lance Dunbar (hamstring), Matt Johnson (hamstring) John Phillips (ankle), Teddy Williams (concussion) and Marcus Spears (concussion) are day-to-day.
*Saalim Hakim (hand) will be at least a week.
*Mike Jenkins is headed to Florida to visit Dr. James Andrews to get his shoulder re-examined.
*Morris Claiborne (knee) is out for at least a week.
*Jay Ratliff (foot) gets work in walkthoughs but not practices.

watching the blue white scrimmage on the website.

Tim benford, calloway and mario butler look like functional players.

Benford is playing well...but he's doing vs 3s, he's not getting reps w 1s..

That tells me he's not in contention.

I think it's Holmes Vs Harris Vs KO

Just basing it off reps vs 1s
