We will find a way to lose. We almost always do.

Garrett will do or won't do something that 99% of NFL coaches would normally do. Romo will hand off the ball to a Carolina defensive lineman. Jason Witten will spike the ball at the 5 yard line. It will be something that no one saw coming yet no one will be surprised.

get your eyes checked, homer

Looks exactly like I said, Ravens DB was all over him. Not sure what you are seeing.

Hitting a WR when the ball is in the air= PASS INTERFENCE

Its only avoiding an illegal contact penalty within 5 yds if you chuck the guy, but once the ball is in the air you cant hit a receiver anywhere unless the ball is tipped.

Should have caught it, but I guarandamntee you had that been a Cowboy DB on any other teams WR, it would have been flagged.

Stop it. You're embarrassing yourself. You're allowed to graze or touch the other guy so long as you don't impede his ability to make the catch before the ball arrives, and that's exactly what happened on that play. If anything, Dez slightly pushed off on his TD catch the play before.

At the game I felt like Dez was diving to the ground and missed a tough catch there. Watching the video I see why everyone felt he blew it.

Also, dbair, I don't see blatant pass interference. Dez initiated the minimal contact. I think most fans would want the refs to let them play there. I have no problem with the no-call on that play.

Also the evil officials failed to call us for 12 men on the field

Danny McCray doesn't count

Smith is a clown, but at least he had the good sense to hold Garrett accountable (unlike Skip).

Despite injury, Kalil says Panthers are ‘real close’

Ryan Kalil was a little groggy Tuesday while on pain medicine a day after foot surgery.

But the Panthers’ Pro Bowl center was crystal clear on a couple of points: Kalil has no regrets about his preseason Super Bowl pledge, and he believes the Panthers are close to becoming consistent winners.

Kalil thinks the Panthers can still make a run this season. If they do, it will be without their starting center and one of their emotional leaders.

“We’re real close. We’re 2 yards away from being 3-2. That’s the most frustrating thing of all,” Kalil said in a phone interview. “But so what? It doesn’t mean anything unless we can finish up these close games. … Great teams play their best when their best is needed. And until we do that, the results aren’t going to change much.

“So yeah, I’m pretty frustrated because it’s close to being where we want it to be if we keep working. And I don’t really get to be a part of that. It’s tough.”

Kalil, 27, the highest-paid center in the NFL, underwent season-ending surgery Monday to repair a Lisfranc injury in his left foot – his first surgery in a football career that has spanned nearly 20 years. Kalil was blocking Seattle linebacker Leroy Hill in the first quarter of the Panthers’ 16-12 loss on Oct. 7 when running back Jonathan Stewart rolled on Kalil’s leg at the end of an 11-yard run.

Kalil had his foot taped and stayed in the game. After X-rays at halftime were negative, Kalil played the entire game, which effectively ended when Cam Newton’s fourth-and-goal pass from the 1 bounced at the feet of tight end Ben Hartsock.

The day after the game, additional tests by team doctor and renowned foot and ankle specialist Robert Anderson revealed a Lisfranc injury – a rupture of ligaments in Kalil’s foot. Kalil took the news hard.

“It’s frustrating. Obviously, the high expectations that we all had for this team. Starting off 1-4, it’s a lot of frustration,” Kalil said. “That and having this injury, and having to deal with that and not being able to play with my guys and get this thing back on track.”

Kalil said he was in denial about the extent of the injury until the surgery, which involved Anderson inserting screws to stabilize the foot and allow the ligaments to heal over five to six months. Kalil’s father, Frank, a former USFL lineman, flew to Charlotte for his son’s surgery.

“I’ve been playing since I was 8. And you go a long time without something like this. I don’t think you think you’re invincible. But you kind of forget that it can happen. It’s part of the job,” Kalil said. “There’s nothing I could have done to prevent it.”

Kalil, placed on injured reserve last week, has a streak of 59 consecutive starts that will end this week. The last time Kalil was sidelined was 2008, when the Panthers rattled off four wins while Kalil was out with a high ankle sprain.

“I told the guys, ‘It’s probably going to be like that (again), now that I’m out,’ ” he said.

Kalil, who has been to the Pro Bowl three years in a row, felt like he was having one of his better seasons. But the Panthers have not gotten off to the start Kalil envisioned when he took out a full-page ad in the Observer in July that began with, “Why the Carolina Panthers will win Super Bowl XLVII.”

Kalil said he had no second thoughts about writing the letter.

“No, I don’t. I don’t think I ever will. I’m not going to apologize for backing my team and having faith in these guys. This is a very talented team that’s very capable of winning,” Kalil said. “We’re 2 yards away from being 3-2 and having a different conversation about us. It’s still early on and we’ve still got a lot of good football left. I think we can put a bunch of wins together and make a run at this thing. So, no, I don’t have any regrets about what I said. And I don’t think any guys on the team (were bothered by it).”

Kalil said he understands how tough it is to win in the NFL, when many games are decided in the closing minutes. Kalil believes if the Panthers can learn how to finish games and experience success, they could get on a roll.

But for the rest of this season, Kalil’s role will be part-cheerleader, part-player/coach, part-personnel scout. He plans to be back at Bank of America Stadium by the end of the week.

“There’s no lack of talent. There’s no lack of work ethic. There’s just a little more focus and intensity (needed) to finish some of these games out,” Kalil said.

“It’s coming, man,” he said. “And I’ll do whatever I can to help out from the sideline the best that I can. That’s all I can do now.”

If it's a close game and it comes down to our defense needing to stop Cam...
Congrats Panthers.

I'll be interested to see how our offensive line plays.

Can they play physical like week 1 & 6, or will it be back to the clusterfrick we've seen weeks 2-4.

Kuechly time? Panthers’ LB Beason misses practice
Modified: Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012

Carolina linebacker Jon Beason was the only Panthers player not to participate at Wednesday’s practice as he continued to nurse a knee injury.

Beason, who sat out the Seattle game on Oct. 7 with the knee problem, has also been battling a shoulder injury for weeks, but Rivera said the knee is the main concern.

“He practiced on Monday and it flared up a little bit so we’ll give him the day off and see how he is (Thursday),” Rivera said. “The shoulder’s not healed but the knee’s what’s aggravating him right now so we’ll see how he is tomorrow.”

Rookie linebacker Luke Kuechly replaced Beason against the Seahawks, but Rivera has been mum this week about the team’s plans at middle linebacker. The Panthers are coming off a bye week.

Fellow linebacker James Anderson said several players have worked out at the position, which gives the Panthers the ability to rotate fresh guys on the field.

“We’ve had Jordan Senn and Thomas Davis and myself work here and there, too,” Anderson said. “We have the ability to have a rotation of guys. We have the ability to have different groups of guys on the field at the same time. So I think that’s something we can use to our advantage because of the depth of talent that we have.”

Kalil’s injury brings offensive line shuffle
Hangartner to center, Bell to guard, Williams to tackle vs. Cowboys

By Jonathan Jones
jjones@charlotteobserver.com

Three Carolina Panthers will be playing in different positions on the offensive line Sunday against Dallas.

After losing Pro Bowl center Ryan Kalil for the season with a foot injury, the Panthers have moved right guard Geoff Hangartner to center while sliding Byron Bell to right guard from right tackle and filling that hole with Garry Williams.

Bell played guard during training camp as a rookie before moving to tackle for the Panthers’ second preseason game. He has started 16 games at right tackle, but said the move should be seamless.

“I played tackle all through college. I played a little guard in high school. So I know how to play it,” Bell said. “I’m playing offensive line. Wherever they put me, you’ve just got to go in there and do it.”

In the four games he’s played in this year, Bell has seen 228 of or the 232 offensive snaps at tackle. He missed the New York Giants game because of injury, and Williams replaced him.

“I’ve been playing it my whole career so I’m already prepared,” Williams said. “Now it’s getting in the film room and learning my opponent more – and anything that can help me.”

With Hangartner out with a shoulder injury in Week 5 against Seattle, Williams was tabbed as the starter at guard. But he failed to make an impression and was promptly substituted for Jeff Byers.

But Williams said the dynamic of the offensive line hasn’t changed despite the moves and the loss of Kalil.

“We’ve played with each other before so the chemistry is still there, so it’s no different,” Williams said. “Everybody’s just stepping up. Ryan was a big part, and we have a lot of stepping up to do.”
