I agree completely VA... again.

While the Colts looked really flat and unmotivated, the Skins looked crisp and aggressive. If nothing else, they're setting a tone for the season.

They very well could win 7 to 9 games this year.

The Redskins?

I still think they'll be lucky to win 4 or 5 games.

The Colts will be lucky to make the playoffs IMO.

I think this is the first year the Colts don't make the playoffs or eclipse 10 wins either..

If you watched the first half of NO/Houston, you saw what offensive line play is supposed to look like. They absolutely manhandled the Saints D. Schaub had a ridiculously clean pocket to throw from and the Houston RBs ran wild through huge gashes in the defensive front. It's not hard to see why the Dallas scouts were so high on Ben Tate. That is one big dood to move like he does. Houston D looked decent too, lots of QB pressure without a lot of blitzing. I think they still have probs on the back end, though. Both Manning and Allen got lit up pretty well.

How did JJ Watt look, VA?

Oh, I meant to mention Watt. The kid never has to come off the field. Most descriptions of him that I've heard/read said he was a "high motor guy," which is usually code for a less athletic player who gets by on effort. But what I saw tonight was a three-down disruptive force. He has a little bit of work to do as far as strength and moves, but he's gonna be a good one.

The Texans have Joel Meyer doing play by play. His real gig is Lakers games for Fox West.

Spencer Tillman is HORRIBLE.

Jj watt is what we thought he was. Strong and consistent.

Houston does have playmakers. If they don't make the playoffs this year they need to clean house.

Is it me or does NO line look not do good?

NT Josh Brent did a good job of getting push at the line of scrimmage and stuffing some of the Chargers’ runs up the middle.

I know he did well last year for being a 7th rounder for us, but he needs to redeem himself after last game. He sure did look like a 7th rounder.

Both JJ Watt and Mark Ingram impressed me last night. I only watched about halfway into the 2nd quarter though.

Five things to watch in tonight's Cowboys-Chargers game

ARLINGTON -- Cornerback Orlando Scandrick is making the most of his time in the Dallas Cowboys' starting lineup in place of the injured Terence Newman, who is out until at least the season opener with a strained groin.

According to defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, Scandrick is having as good a camp as any defender, raising the possibility of his keeping the job even after Newman is healthy.

Ryan wouldn't go that far, saying he feels the Cowboys have three starters in Scandrick, Newman and Mike Jenkins.

"Scandrick's been doing great all camp," Ryan said. "He's had one of the better camps [of] anybody, I think. He's a confident guy. He's doing well.... In my opinion, we have three starting corners and that's the way it's going to be."

Scandrick more than held his own against the San Diego Chargers in practice last week and will get another chance to prove himself in tonight's preseason matchup against the Chargers at Cowboys Stadium.

Here are five storylines to watch tonight:

1 Scandrick's starting bid

Orlando Scandrick has been the Cowboys' nickel corner the past three seasons, but he's in the last year of his contract and understands his future income will increase if he is considered a starting-caliber cornerback. Scandrick certainly sees this as another opportunity to prove he can be a starter on the outside next season, if not this year. Terence Newman will most likely not be brought back in 2012 because of age, injury history and his high salary.

2 A longer look at Romo & Co.

Quarterback Tony Romo and the regulars will play at least a quarter, if not more. It will be Romo's longest stint since suffering a fractured clavicle last October, forcing him to miss the final 10 games of 2010. "I can't guarantee you a play number or a time in the game when they're coming out, but we anticipate them playing longer," coach Jason Garrett said. "Hopefully into the second quarter, maybe double the snaps"

3 Offensive line

Seventh-round pick Bill Nagy will get his turn at left guard in place of the injured Montrae Holland. (Fourth-round pick David Arkin got the start in the preseason opener.) The interesting thing is that Nagy was largely a reserve in college at Wisconsin, but now he is in a battle for a starting job with the Cowboys. The Chargers game will also serve as another test for rookie top pick Tyron Smith at right tackle.

4 Dan Bailey gets his shot

Incumbent kicker David Buehler is out tonight with a hip strain, giving rookie Dan Bailey a chance to get a leg up in the kicking competition. Bailey, who will handle all kicking duties tonight, has more than held his own against Buehler in training camp, and tonight he can put some real heat on Buehler.

5 The Rob Ryan defense

The Cowboys' defense under the new coordinator didn't get off to a good start in the preseason opener against the Broncos, who marched 74 yards on the opening drive against Dallas' starters. The Cowboys will be helped by the return of nose tackle Jay Ratliff, who missed the preseason opener with a bad back. Ryan said he expects communication to improve dramatically, leading to better results against the Chargers and their potent passing attack.

I wonder if that speculation of Gurode being traded becomes a reality. Interesting.

I know Newman doesn't have much left in the tank, but if Ryan says Scandrick can be a starter then there's no reason to keep Newman. I originally wanted to keep Newman, but I do like the idea of becoming a much younger team. If Scandrick keeps this job then who plays the nickel?

McCann, Thomas? Please don't let it be Ball.

Can't cut Newman this year with his salary.

Newman's way too much better than any of those guys.

We really dont gain anything by cutting him, we dont need the cap space and its not like his spot is being wasted.

I was thinking about wielding my Mod power and starting a thread dedicated to the game itself.
