Don't know what you habve been watching, but the left side of the OL, has been pretty good WHEN Leary was in there.
It was Dez. And we did so because this happened earlier:

Leary has like one good game under his belt. And Witten is a pass catching TE who's an adequate blocker. You don't count on him to move bodies on 4th and 1.
and he was double teaming Dockett most of the time.
The Raiders and Cardinals are definitely a legit measuring stick in the NFL.
The Raiders have no one and he was double teaming Dockett most of the time.
If I called a run play, I wouldn't do it into the teeth of the defense. Toss sweep that mug and string them out. Or spread out the WRs and do a draw play.

Remember a few years ago we ran on 4th and short. Romo faked a handoff to the fullback and then tossed it to Felix running left and he went basically untouched into the end zone.
Beautifully executed. Never saw that play again.
Leary didn't play in that game
Leary didn't play in that game
And if Leary had gotten bitch-slapped by both of those defenders on that team, you'd be bitching about that

Wait, no.
Picture it....
Super Bowl this year
Cowboys vs Broncos
59 seconds left on the clock.
Cowboys have 1 time out left.
4th and 1.
Ball is on the opponents 38 yard line.
Down by 3.
Do you send out Dan Bailey to attempt a 55 yard game tying fielg goal and trust your D to get us into OT?
Do you send Romo and the offense out to try and get the first and move in closer for the field goal or better yet potentially get a TD?
Dumb play as usual. Romo QB sneaks it, it's a first down. WHAT THE FUCK DOES GARRETT HAVE AGAINST QB SNEAKS? But instead wants to hand the ball off to the FB.. WHO IS 5 YARDS BEHIND THE LOS, thus making it technally 4th and 4 and not 4th and 1.
I'd do whatever Jerry told me to do over the headset.
