Are you saying that they should build the team and then replace the QB? I would agree with that direction. The one thing to remember is that is what they have been doing that for years. They don't know what to do with the draft picks anyway. At least Johnny Football would provide great entertainment. Jerry doesn't understand how to build a team.if he did, the trenches wouldn't be a problem year after year. He invest too much in some positions like the CBs with the Carr deal and the Claibourne drafting, but neglects others. Safety has been an issue since Woody retired. Crawford is the only dlinemen drafted in a while and it shows up every game.

The key would be convincing Jerry that his team needs a total rebuild as opposed to being one or 2 players away from building a competitive squad.

Puny Manziel will get hurt just like Griffin did. Give me a strong-armed pocket passer any day of the week.

They said the same thing about Brees.

You think Romo gets murdered every game? Put a pocket passer who can't move behind that line. He won't last 3 games.

Unlike Griffin and Manziel, Brees and Romo rarely run downfield.

So? Manziel isn't big or strong enough to be a pocket passer. The offense will have to change to accommodate his running abilities, and when he does, he'll eventually get hurt like all the rest. Oh, and get ready for more Dez meltdowns when he doesn't get the ball enough.

Dez has yet to meltdown because he didn't get the ball enough.

A lot, maybe most, of Dez's big plays have come when Tony runs around and buys time just like Manziel does, not on precision timing passes from the pocket.

Romo has always been better on the run. He sucks when he sits in the pocket. They should be able to recognize that and run more designed rollouts and bootlegs.

I had rather have a pocket passer, but in reality, how long will one last behind the POS olines that the Cowboys field every year?

I think with Romo, Dez, Williams, Witten and even Hanna (not to mention Beasley and Escobar if they are used right), Dallas has a fairly good downfield passing offense. But they need something to set up that offense, something to offset that offense, and something to complement that offense. The runningback and running game protects the QB from both sack pressure and bad decision pressure. Whoever the next coach is needs to organize the offense around a strong method of getting the first down over and over; controlling the defense, the clock and setting up the explosive downfield play. I think Mangini may have that thinking but at this point anyone from Carroll's or Harbaugh's staff would be good.

Maybe not so wild-ass knowing Jerry. But very unlikely.

But let's say we tank the rest of the year. Probably wouldn't hurt if Griffin torched us in Washington and Kelly beat us down the last game of the year.

What would you think if Jerry embraced the new trend and hired (for instance) Kevin Sumlin/Art Briles and drafted (for instance) a Manziel/Mariota type to run a spread type offense. Would you like it?

Yeah, I know this won't happen because of Romo's contract as much as anything. Just wondering if you'd like or hate seeing a radical change in the offense like that.

Not a fan.

Well it gives him
Better view of the field but I think more importantly scrambling breaks down the defense . Our only offensive unpredictability.

That's why I'd send 5 out to recieve on most plays

It is just a shitty situation. To get better, you need a really strong coach to counter Jerry.

Unfortunately, I don't think Jerry will ever go that route again. Eggshells, you know.

I think they'd rather fuck around playing grab ass with their committee/consensus bullshit than actually be a little uncomfortable and win something.

Unless Garrett tanks, I'm thinking he comes back and they make Callahan this year's sacrificial lamb. Kiffin gets another year with Marinelli because of injuries. I hate it, but I think that is what happens.

I'm not a Zimmer fan, but honestly, he might be one of the few that might stand some chance of success (well, him and Payton, but Payton isn't available). They know the dysfunction. Jerry probably respects them enough to back off from time to time.

Right now, I'm more focused on OC/OL types. The best we might be able to hope for is ditching Garrett's shitty offense and bringing in a new offense.....even that seems unlikely as I type it. That'd mean ditching Wade Wilson and him and Jerry probably like talking about dick pills together around the water cooler.
