It's only 3 games but lets dig a little deeper into our #1 offense. Dak is 18th in the league in completion percentage with 67.1%. That's pretty glaring and this should tell everyone that's it's a different game then years past. Dak is 15th in TD passes with 5, tied with seven other QB's. Dak is ranked 23rd in TD%. Dak is ranked 14th in QB rating with a 98.5.
Having the most yards while you're #1 in pass attempts is great but it's not leading to TD's and even with so many yards his QB rating is almost mid-tier at 14th. These are good numbers for a 4th round QB that no one had huge expectations for but is this the guy you break the bank for?
Can we find better? I really don't know considering our GM and front office. But that doesn't mean that I'm on board with paying Dak franchise money. He's the 5th highest paid QB in the NFL this season and we're sitting at 1 and 2. Defense plays a huge part of that record, no doubt about it. But I'm not excusing Dak. His piss poor play to end the first half, start the second half and end the game vs the Seattle was a huge contributor in the loss.
We've got a lot of season left and anything can happen but it wouldn't surprise me if we're sitting at 8 and 8 with as many questions as we have answers, just like last season.
I grew up watching Landry call plays and consider KM and MM so second rate as to be near irrelevant. How many SBs did MM win as HC with arguably the best QB ever? Sometimes I think KM has never heard of running slants and dumbs to unstack the box ... these geniuses lack common sense, like JG, and ultimately JJ.
You're right the numbers are crazy. "18th in the league in completion percentage with 67.1%.". In 2016 his COMP% was 67.8, that was good for 6th on the year. His 65.1 last year was 9th.
last year only Garoppolo had a COMP% over 70%, As of now there are 10 QBs over 70% in 2020.
I don't think we can view the current stats as much more than a reflection of a bunch of blown coverages and weird plays ... weird offseason
but your question was would we pay top money for Dak, don't matter. Will JJ? yes, and he offered big money.
I think Dak is a good leader and a workaholic who'll keep getting better, with a serious mid to deep game, his short is frightening at times. They have to get him out of the pocket when protection isn't there and use mobility to create time to go down field.
but maybe, your points and the above illustrate that we often get over focused on QBs ... frankly, Dak ain't the issue, nor even a limping OL - it ridiculous blown coverages so far in 2020, 4 TDs last weak off blown coverage
