I'm at the point where I'd sign the guy long term. Not a blockbuster deal, but something reasonable.

The sack numbers haven't been impressive, but I think if we had a secondary worth a shat, or a DT who could collapse a pocket, then they would improve.

Don't forget if all the stars are in alignment as well, he'll have a chance. Demarcus Ware has to deal with all those factors (excuses) that you apply to Spencer with the secondary and the DT unable to collapse the pocket AND facing conmstant double-teams and occasional triple teams. Nonetheless, he still nets almost 20 sacks (3 times more than Spencer).

He's a good player. I don't think any of the guys in the draft would be a significant improvement.

Bullshit. I think either Branch or Irvin would be quite an upgrade and improvement over what we have in Spencer. But let's continue to pay for mediocrity.

Spencer is 28 and is already starting to slow down and sport a gut. He's not getting any better and he isn't the answer.

If you can get him on a 1 yr deal do it but please don't re-sign him to a multiple year deal thinking it'll get better.
