What advice are you giving Jerry with regards to Anthony Spencer

Jerry calls you. In between lip smacks, winks, "uh's" and condescending grins, he asks you what you think the team should do with Anthony Spencer.

What are you recommending?

I would still draft someone and backload the contract so we could get out of it later. Just don't like the available realistic choices for free agency.

I'm at the point where I'd sign the guy long term. Not a blockbuster deal, but something reasonable.

The sack numbers haven't been impressive, but I think if we had a secondary worth a shat, or a DT who could collapse a pocket, then they would improve.

He's a good player. I don't think any of the guys in the draft would be a significant improvement.

I don't want Spencer here anymore. I'd be comfortable with Butler and a guy like Curry in the 2nd round. Spencer looked slow this year.

I agree we need more from the position but we have so many holes. Signing him is one less unknown. We know what we have in him and hopefully Ryan can push him.

If I felt we had a legit shot at Mario Williams I'd let Spencer hit the open market.

I agree with CMD, unless we get someone like Mario Williams then the best thing to do is probably keep him one more yr, in addition to drafting someone at some point in April.

As much as we all want him replaced, there arnt alot of options.

You can’t let him go because you have no other proven players to replace him. You are stuck with “i take plays off” Spencer for another year. Don’t sign him long term. This defense will never reach its potential till you get a dynamic pass rusher opposite Ware.

Considering that franchising seems like retarded route the team will go, I'll take a long term deal.

Do the same thing with Spencer that we should do with Robinson. Offer a modest deal and if they don't like it, let them see what's out there. If he leaves just find a try-hard-guy like Jarrett Johnson or someone to replace him.

That's really not a bad plan.

It's a great plan. If the only strong talking points that people have for Spencer is that he's very good at setting the edge. Replace him with a similar SOLB type for less.

It doesn't have to be Johnson, just a JAG try-hard guy. He doesn't even have to be Matt Roth. He just has to be fair-skinned.

Problem is we suck and are giving everyone raises.

Get new blood in there throughout the front 7. Give spencers money to a new player so I have some change to point to

So he's a send a message replacement. We're not rewarding you for trying sometimes when you feel like it.

I chose this option: Draft BPA round 1, draft BA OLB at 45.

That #45 pick would either be Irvin or Branch.

Plan A: Let him walk and pay OUT THE ASS for Mario Williams.

Plan B: Resign Spencer to a reasonable deal and go 4-3 full time.
