I would have posted this a lot sooner, but I have been working people I know who are in the know to really drill down on some of this.
1) Jason Garrett and the Cowboys love QB Andy Dalton, so much so that I am assured that if he is available in the 2nd rd he will be a Cowboy. Book it. I'm told Garrett has scouted every single pass throw by Dalton and firmly believes in him.
2) It will go down to the wire with the Cowboys and Demarcus Ware, but my guy says that Jones just doesn't want to let Ware play elsewhere and will restructure his deal. The Cowboys believe Ware wants to be here and will discount to do so.
3) I have confirmed something most others haven't become aware of yet, that the team is pursuing DL Alex Carrington. Its likely a deal will get done before the end of the weekend.
4) There is a possibility the Cowboys will trade down in the first round, but there is also a possibility they will stand pat.
5) I want to take some time to explain how the Cowboys front office really makes decisions. The misconception is that Jerry is doing everything on his own but that is not true. There were organizational consensus decisions made on players like Quincy Carter, Kavika Pittman, Dwayne Goodrich, Akwasi Owuso Ansah and Felix Jones. Jerry relies on input from everyone and then takes a vote on how to proceed.
6) Bill Cowher continues to have secret meetings with Jerry about the HC job in Dallas. Jerry loves Jason, but he is also eying Cowher as a fall back option. Jerry knows he is taking a gamble by not extending Garrett today, and as a HC free agent Jason is likely to ignite a bidding war from many teams who will try to secure him as the face of their franchise. Cowher is Plan B.
7) I cant reveal my source, but Miles Austin will likely be resigned before training camp.
8) I'm told Dallas was never really interested in Jared Allen. His agent asked Jerry for a favor to "visit" with JA, so that other teams would have to drive up their price to sign his guy.
9) Jerry was a big believer in Phil Costa. The fact he was signed up so quickly after being released is proof Jerry knew what he was doing when he was entrusting the middle of the Cowboys OL to him.
10) Most of you just don't realize how highly respected an NFL man Jerry is among league circles. I was having a steak sandwich with one of my guys and he said many other GM's and personnel guys consult with Jerry on and off throughout the year for advice on how to build a team, and the types of players it takes to have a consistent winner.
That's all for now.
