In the weeks leading up to the draft, the following happens:

Spencer is re-signed. Sims is re-signed. Ratliff is retained. Connor released. Our DLine consists of the following:

DE: Ware, Spencer, Crawford, Wilbur
DT: Lissemore, Hatcher, Price, Ratliff

Linebackers look like this:

SLB: Sims
MLB: Lee, Lemon
WLB: Carter, Albright

On offense:

Doug Free is released.

Unfortunately the team really is high on Costa, but plan to move Bernadeau to Center and let the best man play.

LT: Smith
LG: Livings
C: Costa, Bernadeu
RG: Leary, draft pick
RT: Parnell, draft pick

Draft...

1st - Kenny Vacarro, FS, Texas

Cowboys have been struggling to find a decent safety since Woodson retired. Outisde of one good season by Hamlin 6 years ago, we've had mediocre to poor play there since. Church is a huge question mark coming off a devastating injury to a skill position player, and Sensabaugh just isn't the answer.

Vacarro is an instinctive safety with great range. Not afraid to initiate contact. Safeties are key in Kiffin's defense. Plus Jerry loves how he can market the Texas kid.

2nd - Eddie Lacey, RB, Alabama

Defenses play the Cowboys entirely different with the threat of Murray because Murray is a stud - when he's healthy. But he's not healthy on a consistant basis. Lacey is a light footed big running back who doesn't have a lot of tread on the tires. He will be a great 2nd option at RB and would also serve as a threat when Murray is out.

3rd - Brennen Williams, OT, North Carolina

Will come in and compete at RT with Jeremy Parnell.

4th - Oday Oboushi, OG, Virginia

Will battle with Ronald Leary at RG.

5th - Sean Porter, OLB, Texas A&M

6th- T.J. Moe, WR, Missouri

all good players.. but the right side of the line is going to get Romo killed by week 4 and both Murray and Lacey will have to run left every time.

I think it is probably a pretty realistic look at what might happen.

I doubt the right side of the line would perform worse than they did last year.

It is realistic, and it sucks. But, what else can we expect from Jerry after all these years of repetitive FAIL?

I don't think there is anyway that they can realistically address every hole on this team in one offseason. Having Jerry running the show even further decreases the odds of that happening.

Come next year, we'll still want another safety, another DL, another OL (at least 1) and probably another WR.

Yeah, but this scenario goes basically with what we had last year on the DL and basically with what we had on the OL with a couple of prayers in the middle of the draft.

The only glaring hole it addresses is safety. This is almost worse case scenario for me. There is a crap ton of trench talent in the first two rounds of this draft. If we go RB in the second, I will lose my shit.

They're going to draft a RB, you cannot just about guarantee it. They always covet skill positions over trench positions.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them take a LB or two higher than we think too.

And, that's okay with you? C'mon, Middie.

Never said I was okay with it.

I just don't have confidence in our teams ability to recognize OL is a big enough need to warrant high picks on it.

I think Jerry could convince himself that Leary and Parnell are viable options, and if not, by gosh those mid-round picks will be just fine.

If it were up to me, I'd find a way to land Warmack in the 1st, and Warford in the 2nd. I might be the only fan in 'Merica that would consider back to back Guards at the top of the draft is a wow draft.

Oh, I know they will. I just am praying it's not in the first two rounds. Not that this brain trust will actually get any talent, but in the first two rounds this year if we just have the trenches in mind we can almost throw a dart and get talent.

Sorry, I thought you were implying that this is something they could do that you would be fine with.

will never happen...there's no way they take a RB in the 2nd rd if they havent acquired more draft picks

Yuck, I'd puke if we used our top two picks on Vacarro and Lacey. Still don't see why people love Vacarro that much, and Lacey would be a luxury.

I do think we'll draft at least one and probably two OL/DL in the first three rounds.

Goes against history. No DLineman taken north of the third since 2005. Only 1 Olineman taken that high in forever.

For whatever reason, this team does not value the trenches.

Is it front office philisophy, or just a coincidence?

OL is in bad shape, defense just changed back to 4-3 defense, where the premium is on DL instead of LB's

Isnt hard to do the math here.
