Simple way is to look at each team's remaining schedule.

Perhaps a better and more realistic question would be: what are the odds of each team in the division finishing .500 or better?

A colleague of mine was all excited today (although he is Lions fan) because he wanted to know my opinion about the trade rumors of AP going to Dallas. He said there was discussion about that last night????

Did anyone see any discussion about this possibility? I didn't find it anywhere.

That would certainly change the odds in the division.

AP as in Adrian Peterson? I think your friend is pulling your leg. I live up here in Minnesota, and I haven't heard shit about it on KFAN.

NFL Rumors: Adrian Peterson to Dallas?

Yahoo Contributor Network By Patrick Conn
16 hours ago

COMMENTARY | Sunday morning during the NFL pre-game show, Ian Rapoport stated that the Cowboys are currently in talks about a possible trade for a running back. Pro Football Talk posted this article on the situation. The conversation most likely started due to the injuries of DeMarco Murray and Lance Dunbar. Is it really feasible or possible the Cowboys would do such a thing?

Potential Targets

There have been rumors of Darren McFadden, Maurice Jones-Drew or even Mark Ingram. While I can understand those three names with the down seasons of Oakland and Jacksonville looking to build to the future with possible draft pick compensation, it doesn't make sense with the contract situations for the first two players listed.

However, Ingram from the Saints seems very unlikely since they are in the hunt for best record in the NFC, and he would most likely be needed to try and secure home field advantage. Even though Ingram has received limited playing time, you never know when you will be in need of your second and third running backs. If you need further proof just ask the Cowboys.

Adrian Peterson Rumor

Adrian Peterson had been in the news almost daily last season due to his near record breaking season after repairing his ACL tear in 2011. This time Peterson is in the news about a potential trade to America's Team as discussed on ESPN Radio's Mike and Mike show. Would Dallas fans be excited about the possibility? Without a doubt, but is this a likely scenario? You wouldn't think so and I don't think Jerry and Stephen Jones are even open to the idea.

The Cowboys' one big issue in all of this is their salary cap. Prior to the Cowboys' signing of former second round selection Marvin Austin, they had approximately $2 million in cap space. Can you afford to get Peterson with their cap issues ? Well not exactly. In order for this kind of deal to be done, Minnesota would have to eat up at least 70 percent of his contract this season and a large portion moving forward. In order for this trade to take place Minnesota would have to pay the remainder of Peterson's $7.2 million signing bonus. With only $750,000 available in cap space according to Over the Cap , that makes this trade proposal virtually impossible.

Unfortunately Dallas has bigger fish to fry on the horizon. After the season this team will have to make decisions on Anthony Spencer and Jason Hatcher. Is Spencer likely to come back and when do they make a decision on Hatcher? Both have been keys to this defense in the recent past. Their two biggest worries are budding young stars that have rookie deals expiring in Sean Lee and Dez Bryant. Not to mention they will need to figure out what to do with DeMarco Murray.

It is safe to say that Adrian Peterson coming back to his home state is nothing but a fairy tale. While he would be welcomed here with open arms, the question of what would it take to land him makes this unattainable. Would Minnesota take anything less than a first round pick and a future first round pick?

Trent Richardson commanded a first and most would say that Peterson would be worth at least that. However, Peterson is age 28 and normally the closer they get to 30 the more their bodies break down. With his style of play it could only accelerate the process. If Dallas is going to upgrade their running back situation it will just have to wait until the NFL Draft.

It's all rumor bullshit, but I'd believe sonmething on Yahoo before I would Bleacher Report. Not the Peterson rumor though. He carries a big contract that we can't cover.

Don't worry though the RB is on the roster already.

Yeah, seeing Peterson has a 96 million dollar contract.

We couldn't trade for an even moderately paid RB.

The cap space we have now will be enough to get us through the season and only allows for dirt cheap injury signings if we need it.
