Found that little nugget in a blurb about tomorrow's coaching staff presser....

Cowboys coaching staff: comings and goings

David Moore / Reporter

The Cowboys will introduce their coaching staff tomorrow afternoon. For those who have not kept a score sheet, we provide this public service.

Additions: Rob Ryan (defensive coordinator), Brian Baker (defensive line), Matt Eberflus (linebackers), Jimmy Robinson (wide receivers/assistant head coach) and Ben Bloom (defensive assistant) and Mike Woicik (strength and conditioning).

Subtractions: Ray Sherman (wide receivers), Paul Pasqualoni (defensive line/interim defensive coordinator), Reggie Herring (linebackers) and Joe Juraszek (strength and conditioning).

Promotions: John Garrett will add passing game coordinator to his title of tight ends coach. Wes Phillips, the son of former head coach Wade Phillips, will stay and have a more active role in assisting Hudson Houck with the offensive line. The Cowboys interviewed Dan Campbell and Bruce Matthews for the position that Phillips will handle.

Hells to the yes.

When I think of an offensive line coach to come in here and whip the team's major weakness into shape, I think of Wade Phillips' quality control coaching son Wes.

I'll say this for Garrett. He's ballsy.

All I will say is that at least it didn't look like the offense quit last year where his responsibilties lay.

As opposed to just blatantly hating it no matter what.

Your ok with the dumbass Eagles naming a career OL coach as a defensive coordinator, but want to be critical of who we name as an assistant OL coach?

Right.

Good one. But like Midswat, I do not like the move. What happened to Wickline? To me this signals that we will be keeping Davis.

Why exactly?

Well for me, I wanted a more experienced Oline coach, don't know what happened with Wickline. And was hoping that the "assistant" Oline coach was just a phasing out of Houck. Maybe a bit of Phillip fatigue---like father, like son.

Well, I'm not really okay with the Eagles doing that. I think it's highly unusual and probably will end up in failure. I just give Reid a little benefit of the doubt.

I'll give Garrett the same, even though he doesn't have Reid's track record. But I feel the same way. This looks like a bad decision.

I will say that the odds of Wes Phillips panning out as an assistant to Houck are better. He's at least got a veteran coach to show him the way. Castillo is being asked to run the entire defense as an OL coach.

But I know this. If I presented this idea to these boards in January not a single person would support it.

Now that it's a reality, it'll start to make sense to most of the fans.

How's this move signal that?

And while I agree Davis stinks and needs to be replaced, he isnt the worst OL. Colombo was by far the worst and is the one guy who needs to be replaced more than any other on the team IMO.

Well of course Colombo is. I purposely didn't mention him because it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that he will not be with the Cowboys. But I just got that feeling that Davis will be with us, I hope not.

I think I'd tend to give Garrett the benefit of the doubt here. He's put together a very good coaching staff and he was extremely complimentary of Phillips back when he was named interim HC. He even said Phillips had been his "right hand man" on the offensive stafff since he'd been OC.

The fact that he's Wade's kid means Garrett must really like the guy, otherwise there's no question he'd have been the first one they let go after he was named permanent HC.

I hope not as well, though as some noted Davis' play did somewhat improve after Wade's canning. I have a feeling his cap situation (if the CBA gets done and the cap is a factor) might play into it more than anything else. And its probably alot easier to cover up for a mediocre guard than it is a bad RT or LT
