We were all sucked because we bought the marketing campaign. Even folks on this board buy the BS. Jerry goes out and tells folks this team is talented. It has SB caliber players. Dak is going to be here for the long term (ie: he's a franchise QB). Red Dolt can lead this team to the promised land. He wants to win. Etc....
Now he's telling the masses he's disappointed so he gives us all hope that things will change. Except it doesn't. The talking points change and the marketing campaign is on full blast. In the meantime, we go to the end of the year with a shitty record but still have a shot at the East and the playoffs. TV ratings are up, Jerry sells tickets and merchandise, the money keeps flowing, dbair repeats the talking points, Scott provides the "tight window" stats and, all along, we all deny what our eyes are telling us.
I'm not even convinced Jerry will bring in a leader or Alpha male as the HC and that's what this team needs. This team needs accountability from both the coaching ranks and players. But I have a gut feeling we're going to get some whizz kid on one side of the ball that's going to owe his life and coaching opportunity to Jerry so he won't rock the boat.
At this point, I'm leaning towards the college ranks to bridge what little talent remains on this team and knows the talent in college football because he recruited them at some point. This roster needs a turnover, just as the coaching staff does. A guy who brings in his staff that's loyal to him. Will it happen? I doubt it. Jerry is going to need a rat like Kellen Moore in the coaches room so he'll talk the new HC into keeping some of his loyal guys.
In any event, I'm going to enjoy all the posts, Tweets and stats in the off-season telling me about some abstract stat to disprove what my eyes are telling me. I'm looking forward to it.
