If he can help keep Romo upright I don't give a damn what he did the last 2 months. Anything will be better than the trash we have been fielding.

Well how about the last year and a half? That's how long he's been out of football.

And yes, I've arrived at that conclusion. I don't want to see Free at Guard. It's a done deal, so let's hope for the best.

Jason Garrett: Brian Waters had a good workout for the Dallas Cowboys, isn’t far off his playing weight

IRVING – Brian Waters visited Valley Ranch on Monday, worked out for the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday and the 12-year veteran guard was officially signed and on the practice field Wednesday.

“He had a good workout,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Wednesday morning. “Brian’s a guy we’ve been interested in for a while. We actually talked about him a couple years ago when he ended up signing there with New England. We’re excited to bring him in here. He’s a real pro.

“He’s been a damn good football player for a long time.”

Garrett said Waters, 36, had been working out in the off-season and “is not much heavier than his normal playing weight.” Waters did not play last season. When discussing with Waters why he took the season off, Garrett said the six-time Pro Bowler had “some family concerns.”

“He still has to get himself in to condition to play at this level and that’s just natural,” Garrett said. “He knows what he’s doing. He learns quickly. We anticipate him really hitting the ground running and hopefully being a part of our football team pretty soon.”

Waters worked out with the second-team offensive line at right guard on Wednesday. Although it’s unlikely that he’ll play Sunday night in the season opener, Garrett wouldn’t rule him out.

“We’ll just try to get through today,” Garrett said. “He got here early this morning and he’s trying to learn as quickly as he can. We’ll try to get him acclimated as soon as we can and just see what kind of progress he makes.”

Garrett as his PC: Not sure if he will play.

Goof Son four hours later on the radio: No he is not playing.

Meh, I'm sure the Giants would prepare for him no matter what the coach or the owner say.

Still think that no matter what his credentials are and what his weight is, hitting shape is different and you don't get it back in five days at age 36 after an 18 month layoff.

Callahan says Waters showing 'all the explosiveness and strength' of a Pro Bowl guard

Two days in, the Cowboys are already seeing what made Brian Waters a six-time Pro Bowler and two-time All Pro.

Even rusty as he is.

“Even though he’s working himself in shape, you could see all the traits come alive on the practice field,” offensive coordinator and line coach Bill Callahan said Thursday at Valley Ranch. “Interesting, he worked in individual yesterday and he worked individual period again today. Within that, we did some competitive drills against the defensive line, and you could see all the explosiveness and strength that a Pro Bowl-caliber guard has.”

The Cowboys have not said whether they will try to get Waters, who last played in the Super Bowl between the Giants and Patriots in February 2012, ready for Sunday night’s game or not. But Callahan said Waters will have input.

“I think that’ll be based on how he feels,” Callahan said. “I think we go day to day and see how he feels and see how much more he can handle. I know we’re working him a little bit more later in the practice with the training staff and with the strength and conditioning staff trying to work on his metabolic workout a little bit and try to get him acclimated to drive series where he can six plays or eight plays or whatever it may be.”

They're all excited because they aren't used to seeing real offensive lineman.
