I spoke to a source today who told me the Cowboys have serious interest in two of the top defensive ends in the 2012 draft class.
Mississippi State end Fletcher Cox produced some impressive workout numbers at Indy and made himself some money. He was identified as a player the Cowboys would strongly consider at pick 14.
I was also told that some teams just outside the top 10, one being the Cowboys, were pleased by LSU defensive lineman Michael Brockers' less-than-spectacular Combine numbers. The thinking is that Dontari Poe's upward momentum could knock Brockers out of the top 10 and into their reach.
CNNSI contributor Tony Pauline released a revised draft list this afternoon which reads like a Rick Gosselin-style composite list, created from draft data revealed by several teams. This list rates Poe 3rd, Cox 9th and slides Brockers to 13th. If this list has any truth in it, the Cowboys could get their wish.
Of course, we're knee-deep into the fibbing season. Which teams would release good data? Would they not be more likely or as likely to give out disinformation?

What might an Anthony Spencer extension break down? Here are the cap figures on 49er OLB Ahmad Brooks' spanking new deal:
2012 -- $ 2.85 million
2013 -- $ 6.65 million
2014 -- $ 7.5 million
2015 -- $ 8.35 million
2016 -- $ 6.35 million
2017 -- $ 5.35 million
The 49ers kept Brooks' cap hit low this season and spiked it in 2013, when the influx of new television money is expected to raise the salary cap significantly. Expect the Cowboys to structure any new free agent deals in a similar fashion. They'll have a lot of dead money coming off the books in 2013, in addition to the extra cap money.
