USC offensive tackle could appeal to Cowboys

The NFL today granted draft eligibility to 56 players who renounced their remaning collegiate eligibility. One name on the list holds particular interest to the Dallas Cowboys: USC offensive tackle Tyron Smith, a first-round candidate.

Listed at 6 feet 6 and 285 pounds, Smith received the Pac-10's Morris Trophy as the conference's top offensive lineman, determined by voting among starting defensive linement. Smith was a two-year starter at USC, moving from the right to the left side this season.

Smith has the long arms and quick feet required of an NFL offensive tackle. At age 20, he has not reached his physical maturity and probably could carry an additional 25 pounds without losing ability.

The Cowboys hold the ninth overall pick in the April draft.

I highly doubt he'll be an opening day starter.

I was just watching NFL Total Access and Charles Davis has us taking Tyron Smith at 9.

I knew he was moving up the draft boards but not into the top ten.

One of these T prospects is going to move into the top 10 after the workouts, IMO.

It's rare you don't see one with that high of a grade.

It should, and does to scouts. But everyone falls in love with gaudy numbers.

I think he'll definitely go in the first. Kid has alot of upside and is pretty smooth now.

Dbrick Ferguson wasnt very big either when he came out, and it didnt hurt him. Pretty sure he was under 300lbs.

BTW, when you're talking about Mel Kiper, you're also talking about the guy who was right on Tony Romo and Miles Austin when nobody else I know of thought they were worth a shat.

They all have big hits and misses.
