OXNARD, Calif. — The Dallas Cowboys have Pro Bowl left tackle Tyron Smith under contract now through 2023.
He has signed a 10-year contract for about $109 million. It’s an eight-year contract extension. The contract includes a $10 million signing bonus, $40 million guaranteed and about $32 million guaranteed over the first three years of the deal.
But many thought Smith would pull in well more than about $11 million per season. So why did he pull the trigger on this deal?
Smith found it important that he was not only a Cowboys player for life but also valued how much the club helped him through his family situation, a source said.
If you remember, Smith went through an ugly family situation where his lawyer accused his parents of taking money from him after he had already agreed to give them money from his rookie deal. Here’s
the story on what Smith had to deal with from 2012.
