I don't love what Trump's announcement is doing to my stock portfolio, but hopefully over the next couple of years things return to normal and my investments recover.

My portfolio dropped 30% plus in 2008 (Obama) and 2022 (?) under Biden. I can ride it out and it's an over-reaction for sure. I don't quite understand why anyone would be opposed to reciprical tarriffs other than the fact they are being pushed by the orange man. And too many people are buying the BS, including Rand Paul.

Markets getting destroyed today. Hopefully it'll be just a day or two massive overreaction, but DJ down 1200+, Nasdaq nearly 850

That was expected. Only temporary. Markets will still soar this year!
I think some of it is intentional from the left and globalists worldwide...at this point it's all they can do, try to crash the economy like they did with the Covid sham in 2020

From what I am reading these are not all reciprocal tariffs. Some are much higher than the country imposes on us. Plus, there are some goods that we do not produce in the US that we imposed tariffs on. For example, Bananas and Coffee. We do not produce those in the US in any significant quantities so why impose tariffs on imports?

I have no issue with equal tariffs to make a point and begin negotiating away all tariffs, but imposing higher tariffs on countries than what they impose on us does make it seem like the start of a trade war.

Trump took the bull in a China shop approach again, and this could create a serious economic recession in the near future. If that happens, Democrats will win the mid-terms, take over both houses of congress and Trump's second term will come to an end. Not only with they shut down DOGE and every other investigation into corruption and waste, they will impeach Trump, lock down Trump's appointments to the courts and God forbid something happens to any of the conservative Supreme Court justices.

So the question is, who blinks first, Trump or the other guys? Europe seems entrenched. The EU has already warned EU countries not to yield to Trump's tactics. China has reciprocated by imposing even higher tariffs on American goods. A trade war is in progress. Will Americans tolerate what's coming next for very long? I say no. If we go into a recession Trump is going to take a beating in the media unlike anything we have seen since Nixon and Watergate.

If we don't get election integrity under control, the Dems will win the mid-terms anyway. Have you seen the videos from 1996 where Pelosi and Schumer are talking about the trade defecits? The Dems don't have anything. They just paint a picture that Trump is entiching himself and Musk and his billionaire friends. I'm all for fair trade and tarrifs until people stop taking advantage of us at our expense. I took a big hit in 08 and 22 when these fools printed money like it was nobody's business. We voted for change and that's what we're getting.

Yes, trade deficits used to be a huge topic every 4 years. Now, not so much. But we did this to ourselves. It was selfish greed that started in the 1970s and just got worse through the 1990s. I remember when Nixon went to China. Worst mistake anyone every made. We thought if we opened China to trade we would have huge markets to sell to. As it turned out China turned the tables and opened the use to all their cheap goods. US corporations made money but US worked got slaughtered. Corporate execs and unions can both take a bow because they shared equally in what happened.

This coupled with punitive taxation overbearing regulation and big government interference made closing up shop here and moving it elsewhere particularly attractive. And fiscally responsible to the shareholders.

The Brits never learned how to make a quality car. They had some appealing cars but their reliability ratings were always for shit. I once owned a Triumph Spitfire. Cool car, but what a pile of garbage.

Of course John Roberts sided with the liberals who argued some nonsense about the lawfulness of terminating the federal grants. It is an astonishingly stupid argument. Imagine a ship hits an iceberg and a judge orders the captain not to plug the hole so that water continues to flood into the hull of the ship eventually sinking it.

I never believed the stories that Roberts has somehow been compromised or that the Dems have some really bad dirt on him, but after this ruling, where Roberts did not write his own dissenting opinion, I am starting to believe those stories are true. He needs to retire, but I am pretty sure if he is compromised his handlers won't let him.
