There was fault on both sides.

Shit went down.

Who cares? It was over a year ago.

This stand your ground debate and the association with Trayvon Martin is never going to go away.

My goodness.

Larry handed him his ass. That was great. Especially the very end when he thanks him for it. Rachel Jeantel is smart? Uh, no. Being sick one year and "falling behind" doesn't make you illiterate and stupid. People like Piers Morgan created Rachel Jeantel. I hope she doesn't have any kids, but I'm certain she will and the cycle will continue.

I doubt they get many burglars these days.

I wonder where Zimmerman is. He'll have to be in hiding for the rest of his life. How will he support himself?

The guy actually made some good points, except school vouchers because no school private or public wants them. Republicans want them because they think it takes a shot at public schools and Teh evil teachers unions.

Teachers unions are damn near evil.

I am sure gun lobbyists can take care of him.

I woud leave the country. Spain would be a good choice. His older brother is fluent in Spanish so I'm sure he is too.

Not sure he can leave with the racist Judicial Department looking to hang a white guy.

FBI requests Florida police not return gun to Zimmerman

The FBI has asked authorities in Sanford, Fla. to not give George Zimmerman back his gun after he was cleared of all charges in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, a Department of Justice official tells Fox News.

The report may serve as further confirmation the Justice Department is taking seriously its investigation into whether or not to pursue a federal civil rights case against Zimmerman, after Attorney General Eric Holder said in an address Tuesday to the NAACP that his department would "consider all available information" before deciding whether to move forward.

The Sanford Police Department told the Orlando Sentinel Thursday that evidence released earlier this week to the agency has been placed "in a hold status," pending the Justice Department investigation.

The items include all the evidence collected by the agency in its investigation of the fatal shooting, such as Zimmerman's gun, Martin's clothes, cell phone, the bag of Skittles and beverage found in his pockets, the newspaper reported.

Amid pressure from the NAACP and several Democratic lawmakers to pursue Zimmerman, the department expanded its probe Wednesday by setting up a public email address asking for any tips or information regarding the case.

The department also held a conference call with civil rights leaders on Monday.

The conference call included DOJ officials, along with representatives from the FBI and federal prosecutors. They spoke to civil rights leaders from Sanford, Fla., as well as others from around the country.

I am not sure why "stand your ground" is so controversial. It was not part of the Zimmerman trial except for the jury instructions given by the lunatic judge. African Americans have fared better in Florida than any other group using that defense. Why would black leaders want to take it away from them? It makes no sense unless....

Obama: Trayvon Martin ‘could have been me 35 years ago’

2013-07-19T180325Z_1_CBRE96I1E5X00_RTROPTP_2_USA-OBAMA.JPG

President Barack Obama, breaking his silence on the George Zimmerman acquittal, said Friday that many African-Americans believe that “both the outcome and the aftermath might have been different” if Trayvon Martin had been white.

“You know, when Trayvon Martin was first shot, I said that this could have been my son,” Obama said somberly during a surprise appearance in the White House briefing room. “Another way of saying that is Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago.”

In searingly personal terms, Obama described his personal experience with race-based prejudice. “There are very few African-American men in this country who haven’t had the experience of being followed when they were shopping in a department store -- that includes me,” he said.

“There are very few African-American men who haven’t had the experience of walking across the street and hearing the locks click on the doors of cars. That happens to me – at least before I was a senator,” he said. “There are very few African-Americans who haven’t had the experience of getting on an elevator and a woman clutching her purse nervously and holding her breath until she had a chance to get off. That happens often.”

So “the African-American community is looking at this issue through a set of experiences and a history,” judging “what happened one night in Florida” through that lens, he said.

Obama seemed to pour cold water on prospects that a Justice Department review of the case would lead to federal charges against Zimmerman.

"I think it's important for people to have some clear expectations here. Traditionally, these are issues of state and local government, the criminal code, and law-enforcement is traditionally done at the state and local levels -- not at the federal level," the president said.

He also tamped down suggestions he call a national conversation on race, but encouraged churches and families and communities to discuss issues surrounding the case and urged all Americans to engage in some "soul-searching."

And he called for a review of laws such as Florida's "Stand Your Ground" statute, suggesting that they re-write traditional self-defense rules in a way that fuels violence rather than smother it.

"And for those who resist that idea -- that we should think about something like these 'Stand Your Ground' laws -- I just ask people to consider: If Trayvon Martin was of age and armed could he have stood his ground on that sidewalk? And do we actually think that he would have been justified in shooting Mr Zimmerman, who had followed him in a car, because he felt threatened?" the president said.

"And if the answer to that question is at least ambiguous, then it seems to me that we might want to examine those kinds of laws," Obama said.

Over the longer term, the president said, "we need to spend some time in thinking about how do we bolster and reinforce our African-American boys" and to "give them a sense that their country cares about them and values them and is willing to invest in them."

Obama said he wasn't calling for a grand new federal program but suggested he could bring together "business leaders, local elected officials, some clergy, and celebrities and athletes" to find a way to do a "better job helping young African-American men feel that they're a full part of this society and that they've got pathways and avenues to succeed."
