Yeah, we we're gonna get what the Eagles got for Bradford, and more!But.... But.... But.... There was gonna be sooooo many teams lined up to compete for him!!! What happened?
Wouldn't it be fucked up if he goes to the Broncos, went to a Super Bowl only to lose to the Cowboys?
Jerry and Romo are good buds. If Romo wants to be released you know Jerry will bend over backwards to comply. Getting a draft pick from a trade would have been nice, but the cap savings alone will be plenty helpful for us.a team that doesn't trade for him might have to compete with four other teams for his services, so isn't a 3rd or 4th rounder worth it if you really want him? or maybe his cap hit is lower if we release him as opposed to trading him.
the Cowboys likely will be releasing not trading quarterback Tony Romo

Operative phrase bolded. Nobody wants him badly enough to give up any picks for him, or otherwise help Dallas in any way.a team that doesn't trade for him might have to compete with four other teams for his services, so isn't a 3rd or 4th rounder worth it if you really want him? or maybe his cap hit is lower if we release him as opposed to trading him.

No, it's 24 million for 2017 vs. 19.6 million spread out over '17 and '18.The cap hit is manageable and doesn't change one iota if he is released vs traded. Its simply whether it all gets absorbed in 2017 vs split over 2018 & 2017.

You kidding? He does it all the time.If Jerry releases him, he is even more of a fucking dumbass than I originally thought. He is running a business, and you don't do wink wink favors that come at a detriment to that business.
The back and the clavicle, scare people. He's played exactly 5 downs the last two years, and the very FIRST hit he took in preseason last year, broke his back.not even a 7th to secure his exclusive rights?
Thank you I stand corrected. No, as I said, its 19.6 million in dead cap space whether he is released or traded

His 2017 salary if he stays with the Cowboys is 24.7 million ( 10.7 million of which is the dead money cap hit leaving 8.9 million in dead money remaining to be absorbed in future years). If Romo were to stay on the team with his present contract unadjusted it would cost them an additional 14 million in real and cap money in 2017.
I think you can agree in principle on a deal but can't make it official until after June 1st. IIRC we signed someone in 2014, but had to wait for Miles Austin's post June 1st cut to go through before putting pen to paper. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, it's all a bit hazy. From my understanding if Romo is designated a post June 1st cut they can divide the $19.5 mil cap hit over 2017 and 2018. If he's cut or trade prior to June 1st the entire $19.5 mil cap hit would be absorbed in 2017.
I have a question though... if Romo is designated a June 1st cut can the team negotiate a contract with a FA (using the Romo cap space) prior to June 1st and then just wait until June 1st to put pen to paper? If not then it really makes no sense to cut him because all of the top FA will have signed with other teams by June 1st.
