Don't worry guys I will balance the budget by cutting taxes on the wealthiest people in the world and to offset that expense I will cut funding to PBS. No more Sesame Street but at least my buddies can afford an extra maserati. Oh and this is not going to do anything to balance the budget lol@ you thinking Mitt cares about fiscal responsibility.

Obama's strategy is quite clear: let Romney ruin himself. It has worked so far.

It's true Obama doesn't really have to do anything. Just like 4 years ago and just like the last 4 years. He's teflon thanks to a protective media and a gullible public.

You think Obama cares about fiscal responsibility? lol If you haven't noticed, the deficit has doubled under his term when he said he'd cut it in half. He gave $90 billion to his green energy friends and they...wasted it before most went belly up.
Now you expect to pull this crappy economy he's presided over out of the muck by RAISING taxes? lol

Vice President Joe Biden, speaking earlier today in Iowa said, "Yes, we do" want to raise taxes by a trillion dollars:

"On top of the trillions of dollars of spending that we have already cut, we’re gonna ask – yes – we’re gonna ask the wealthy to pay more," said Biden. "My heart breaks, come on man. You know the phrase they always use? Obama and Biden want to raise taxes by a trillion dollars. Guess what? Yes we do in one regard. We want to let that trillion dollar tax cut expire so the middle class doesn’t have to bear the burden of all that money going to the super wealthy. That’s not a tax raise, that’s called fairness where I come from."

----

A trillion dollar tax increase...yeah, that'll stimulate the economy and generate jobs lol

You're kinda talking out of your ass. Romney had a horrible 3 week stretch. In order:

1) Romney returned a trip abroad where he managed to insult and piss off every nation that he visited
2) Clint Eastwood overshadowed his convention.
3) Ryan got caught up in a web of lies over his Herculean feats and accomplishments
4) The 47% video came out

ALL of those things overshadowed his message and campaign strategy. It got to the point where Super PACS were planning to call it a loss and start pouring money into congressional races to lock up those seats.

He came out last night desperate and had no choice but to swing away.

Obama's strategy is quite clear: let Romney ruin himself. It has worked so far.

opposite of that

In 2004 during the bush Kerry debates my aunt told me she was voting for bush because he was small and spunky.

And that's America, that's what these debates are about.

The job numbers report this morning was predictable.

you knew after the food stamp president failed to show up Wednesday night, they had to switch the focus.

The thing is the job situation is not better than it has been forever it. Unemployment is down because our faltering economy has created structural underemployment which has driven people out of the work force. They aren't unemployed, they just don't work(first time this has had this serious an affect on unemployment figures). So no, the jobs data has been all disappointing, but yes this one derivative number looks good, as enlightening as a banks books.

I found this interesting

GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s recent remarks caught on camera regarding the 47% of Americans who don’t pay income tax are all over the news.

Our nation’s tax code is long and complex, and as I’ve shown in recent columns there are ways the super rich can avoid paying massive taxes and for lower-income individuals to reduce their income and save on taxes-- even to the point of receiving back more money than they paid in.

But the question remains, who makes up this 47% and why don’t they pay income taxes?
Here is the breakdown, according to the Tax Policy Center:

Elderly: 10.3% This group has likely paid off their mortgages and is earning reduced income in the form of modest pensions and Social Security benefits. If they are making less than $10,950 (single), $20,150 (married filing jointly) and $13,650 (head of household) in annual pension benefits alone, then their Social Security is not taxable and they have no filing requirement.

6.9%: Non-elderly Some of these folks are under the age of 65, likely live in low-income areas, may possibly enjoy the benefits of low-income housing, food stamps, government subsidized medical, etc. They make less than $9,500 (single), $19,000 (married filing jointly), and $12,200 (head of household). They have no filing requirement and do not work. If they did, they would be included in the next category of the 28.3%. This could also include the ultra rich who pay no taxes thanks to tax loopholes. It also includes many students living off student loans or with their parents. And don’t forget our beloved Armed Forces who receive nontaxable combat zone pay.

28.3% Pay Payroll Tax This group has jobs, but are working for very low pay or part time. They pay into Social Security and Medicare through payroll withholding, but because their incomes are so low, they end up owing nothing in income taxes.
Low enough wages to not have to file a return can be common at large corporations. According to Forbes 400 Richest Americans 2012, four members of the Wal-Mart family hold 6th through 9th place with a combined net worth of $107.1 billion. Yet, Angela Andrews, a registered tax practitioner who works in a tax office at a California mall across from Wal-Mart states, “more than 50% of the 100 Wal-Mart employees who come in to get their taxes done qualify for and receive the Earned Income Credit.” When employers don’t pay the difference between the minimum pay scale and adequate compensation, taxpayers provide it in the form of the EIC for those workers.
These people are legally entitled to the Earned Income Credit (EIC), which helps low-income filers hold on to and even get more money from Uncle Sam. Many eligible candidates for the EIC are single parents, and can get a maximum of $5,666 for 2011 with the credit.
Some corporations prefer to hire two part timers rather than one full-time individual so they don’t have to provide fringe benefits.

<1% Others – a hodge podge of the remainder that make up the 47%, with no descriptive provided by the Tax Policy Center. These are probably self-employed individuals who are suffering business reversals. They file tax returns with the hopes of carrying backward or forward their business losses. No tax is due if you threw your money into a business that is not yet giving you a return on your investment.
So as you can see, the 47% is a varied group. Some are elderly, living modestly on small pensions. Some work and pay into the system in other ways. Some are thrown by the bad economy, unemployed and looking, losing their businesses, losing their homes.

On Mitt Romney’s website is the following declaration: “Mitt Romney has scrupulously complied with the U.S. tax code, and his income is reported and taxed at the applicable rates, and he has paid 100 percent of what he has owed.”

It’s likely that most among the 47% can say the same.

Think about the tax monster we have created. The rich pay 15%, the poor get reverse welfare. Those in the middle are forced to carry the load. It’s time for less talk and more action. We need a Congress and a president who will radically change the tax system in this country.

So, the article above stated this "Think about the tax monster we have created. The rich pay 15%, the poor get reverse welfare. Those in the middle are forced to carry the load. It’s time for less talk and more action. We need a Congress and a president who will radically change the tax system in this country."

What income range are the rich that are paying 15%? I'd have to go back and look at my return, but I suspect I pay a higher rate than 15% (and I assume I'm considered middle class)

Would rolling back the Bush era tax cuts increase that 15% rate?

I'm all for the idea of a flat tax. And I'm very against those not paying taxes simple because they want to nurse welfare. However, assuming this article is correct.....that is less than 7% of the nation (which also includes the Armed Forces, the ultra rich, etc)

Looking at that article, I struggle to see a large percentage of the country that are shirking their tax duties. Are there some? Absolutely. Should that be remedied? Absolutely.

However, if I want to stimulate the economy, I'm going to get as much money as I can in the hands of the middle class. Because that group is going to drive economic growth if they increase spending. That, will in turn, stimulate the "job creators" to create more jobs....since there is demand. Giving people that are already rich isn't going to cause them to spend more to create jobs.....unless demand exists.

Simplify taxes (everyone pay their fair share), eliminate wasteful spending and reduce the deficient, small government (I don't believe a government creates sustainable job growth)

Having said all of that.....I don't see a candidate on either side whose plan seems to follow any of those ideas....so I doubt I vote this year.

Junk you've nailed it.

A big issue is that the republican party especially continues to invent nonexistent boogeymen to rile their base up against. Goldstein after Goldstein for them to be terrified of.

Welfare queens living it up.
Anchor babies.
Voter fraud.
Muslim presidents.
Muslims attempting to install sharia law in America.

And instead of paying attention, and realizing that over and over again these boogeymen don't exist, they continue to eat the shit that is spoonfed to them by a party that wants to keep them terrified of unionized teachers.

Noone will find a candidate that perfectly represents their interests, but if you avoid it entirely you risk being represented by mitt romney.

I'm still waiting for someone to show a direct correlation with cutting taxes on the rich and an increase in jobs

What do you think is more likely?

1. A certain group doesn't pay enough.

or

2. There aren't enough tax payers?
