You're right; in the end his solutions will be magically found in instituting more gub'ment.

This problem is two fold. One, most everyone WANTS bigger, more powerful and more intrusive government. They just want it to do what THEY want it to be doing, depending on their own whims. So we're always going to have a Statist in office at this point. Two: Terrible GOP candidates have been the norm the last three cycles. The only difference this time is most people can't see how feckless, spineless and terrible the other candidates really are, because Trump gets all the attention. This also has the effect of pretty much shielding Hillary's campaign completely from inspection.

I didn't watch the debate, and only occasionally get interested in anything going on with the Repubs at this point...

That said, one of the big knocks on Cruz used to be that he made outlandish statements that turned people off. Trump has come in and made him look more reasonable. Cruz can now say those things and no one bats an eye because it's buried in the lead of Trump.

Eventually, that turns more people off, and I don't think people will be voting for Trump in the numbers we see in the polls right now. I suspect Cruz may be the one to swoop in and be the more "presidential" candidate and win the primary.

In my mind Cruz had the zinger of the night when he said "I will build a wall and get Trump to pay for it!"

I think Paul has the best ideas, but he's just not getting the pub or poll numbers that these two guys are.

Yeah his "ideas" are the same as his dad's were - load up bills you know will pass with tons of pork and earmarks for your district, then vote NO on said bill so you can claim you're fiscally responsible and lean Libertarian. They're both flim-flam men and outright liars, phony's. Might be exactly why they can't pull any numbers.

Trump is right about a lot of shit, but he's counting on way too many backwoods crazies to turn out the vote. While I agree with his stance on 90% of what he says, there's something missing for me. That dictator question he kinda stumbled on last night was the easiest question of the night.

The right answer is, America has it right. Democracy works for us. And while dictatorship may not be good for other countries, it's not our business. America has gone in the hole being everything to everybody. It's time to focus on cleaning up the mess at home. Most everything we stick our nose in in other countries ends up being a disaster.

I'm not sure what you mean about Trumps response, though. I think he said we've spent trillions on toppling dictators, which could have been used at home. That sounds like one of the more reasonable answers he gave all night. His closing the internet and nuclear responses were dreadful.

Cruz is my choice right now but if Trump wins, a Trump/Cruz ticket would be pretty solid. Much better than what we have gotten with Dole/McCain/Romney

BUT.... Be all this as it may... It's either tragic or humorous depending on how you look at it - that every one of these oafs have far greater credibility than either Jerruh or Jason?

Anyone else did that though they probably would have been killed in court of puclic opinion, but people are so pissed about the way things are now that they can overlook stuff like that because they see Trump as a real leader who will do something about the most obvious problems.

I generally hate politics. I'm a big fan of a candidate that isn't beholden to their corporate overlords. Although people get super spun up about some fringe issues, I generally think democrats and republicans are equally bad these days.

However does anyone think a President, even if he doesn't have large amounts of corporate campaign funding, is going to be successful in implementing any sort of change? He still has to deal with a Congress who is still on a corporate leash

I doubt it.

It would be nice to see a trend toward that type of candidate, liberal and conservative, at all levels.

If America is really attracted to Trump because he needs no corporate funding, maybe America is serious about cleaning up politics? Not saying Trump is the reason for it, or he's the only candidate that makes sense, but politics needs to be taken out of the hands of the 1%.

It would be nice to see a steady trend in the way of rooting out corporate contribution, less money in campaigns, no more lobbyists. I think it's too far gone, though.

I used to think he was more of a figurehead than anything, but then you realize that the President will always have his party's support and there's enough money to swing the precious few votes that matter. More or less, the U.S. is in a position where the sitting President will be able to implement just about whatever he wants; only to see it all undone or countered by the next guy. No real step in any direction, just 1 step ahead and 1 step back.

Probably the shittiest version of democracy this planet has ever seen and yet it will continue because the voting majority doesn't really give a shit about the outcome beyond party lines.
