It's responsive when one of your statements needs some correcting. That while crime rates were dropping, most probably (in part) for reasons I posted, they are on the increase. I interjected myself to add value and help a fellow poster like yourself. The least you can do is thank me.
Don't need your help, thanks though.
Two things. Pointing out trends that only run to 2014 and making them deffinitive is no better than CZ homers who chime in that we're more of a 12 and 4 team because of what we did then. Things change. And we're almost 2 years removed from those stats. You only need to do a little more digging to get a more accurate assessment. And second, it's neither cherry picking nor do I discount crime rates overall:
This is ridiculous. The "trends" on crime stats go back 25 years, just like the "trends" show the Cowboys sucking for 25 years. You're the one guilty of pointing out one partial year of upticks in crime rates and acting like it's definitive. The fact of the matter is violent crimes are 50% of what they were 25 years ago, and nothing you've posited even comes close to rebutting that.
FBI: Murders and other violent crimes increased last year - The Washington Post
Note the emphasis on the country's smallest and largest areas. Hardly cherry picking.
You're cherry picking one half of one year with a 1.7 percent uptick nationwide versus 25 years of decreasing to levels half of what they were. You're pointing at the smaller sample size and acting like it's representative of where we are. That's just willful ignorance.
You even bolded a sentence that says "after two straight years of declines." There may be slight increases a year here and a year there... but overall, it's not even close to as dangerous as it was 25 years ago.
The stats above do not bode well for 2015 or what we are seeing in 2016. And these numbers are from the FBI, not some lobbying arm of law enforcement.
And since you mention the FBI, their Director cites an increase in murder rates. In some cities, those jumps are pretty significant. But I digress. I'm sure it's not a problem; just more cherry picking from the source you deem the most reliable.
Like I said, if the numbers bear out to be a massive increase across the country for the entire years of 2015 and 2016, then I may need to adjust my position. I haven't seen that yet.
And yeah, the original link you posted talked about a few cities in half of a year, and the numbers came from an association of random law enforcement personnel.
