The Republicans brought in 4 witnesses to talk about the impeachment process and history of impeachment to start the inquiry. They were not there to provide material evidence against Biden. Asking them "Do you have any evidence Biden is a crook?" is beyond stupid. No one said they had evidence and that is not why they are there in the first place. AOC did not undermine anything other than her own intelligence, but there is nothing to undermine there.

When he walked into the Capitol on Saturday, Speaker Kevin McCarthy knew exactly what he’d do to stave off a shutdown: Call up a bill that abandoned the border policy and spending cuts he’d preached for weeks.

McCarthy’s move marked an abrupt shift after spending most of the year trying to placate all corners of his party — including a dozen-plus hardliners who have made it next to impossible for him to maneuver anything onto the floor. After the vote, McCarthy all but taunted his critics to come after his gavel if they wanted to.

And their first chance to do that will be Monday night. Multiple House conservatives confirmed in interviews they will begin seriously mulling whether they will try to seize McCarthy’s gavel in the coming days.

“I think it is a surrender,” said Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.), one of multiple conservatives who warned McCarthy not to accept Democratic help to avoid a shutdown.

In the end, the 45-day funding patch that is on track to keep the government open passed with more Democratic than GOP votes, in a repeat of the spring debt vote that first inflamed McCarthy’s opponents.

The bill was finished just before midnight on Friday. But McCarthy didn’t unveil his plans to take up the bill until almost 11 hours later, after a choreographed parade of Republicans took the mic during a private 90-minute meeting to argue for exactly his proposal.

Dozens of conservatives ended up voting against the bill, which gave in on their two biggest priorities — spending cuts beyond McCarthy’s spring debt deal and hard-right border policies. Still, McCarthy wanted the groundswell of support for it to look like an organic move by his members, rather an order down from leadership.

Mere hours later, a majority of House Republicans backed the type of shutdown-averting bill that the California Republican had repeatedly sworn was unacceptable. McCarthy’s 180-degree turn could soon threaten his speakership, giving conservatives who have threatened to try to eject him plenty of fodder to make their move.

I have mixed emotions about this. Not that I am a McCarthy fan. If he made promises to secure votes to win the speakership in the first place, then he broke those promises, there needs to be an accounting. But I just wish Republicans would fight as hard against the left as they do their own. We don't have a lot of time. Democrats have revealed they will do anything with the power they have. They have weaponized almost every agency of government already. If Democrats win in 2024 there is not telling how far Democrats might go to silence their opponents.

We need to win and win big. Then we need to act big and take down the apparatus that is destroying the constitution.

"Election denier" was up until recently code for "Republican." But now Democratic party members are filing suits alleging fraud. A Democratic mayoral candidate for Bridgeport, Conn., alleges that there was fraud with absentee ballots deposited at ballot drop boxes.

John Gomes, Democratic mayoral candidate for Bridgeport, Conn., filed an election challenge over alleged absentee ballot abuse in his primary race last month against incumbent Mayor Joe Ganim.

Connecticut limits who can return a voter’s absentee ballot, and the lawsuit alleges that video footage of a ballot drop box appears to show multiple people depositing multiple absentee ballots into the receptacle, — called ballot harvesting — including a Ganim supporter.

Gomes lost to Ganim in last month’s election by 251 votes. Ganim lost the votes cast via machines but won with the margin in absentee ballots, of which 2,630 were cast in total. According to the lawsuit, Ganim received 694 more votes in absentee ballots than Gomes did.

The Bridgeport police department provided about 2,104 hours of surveillance video footage of the four ballot drop boxes in the city from Aug. 22 until Sept. 14. The police captain testified during the hearing that 12 hours of video footage were erased as officers copied the files for the lawyers and the State Elections Enforcement Commission.
