But seriously, I have had mental issues with FGs in title games ever since SB 13 when Dallas kicked a FG after Jackie Smith's missed TD pass. Of course none of us knew at that point Randy White was going to later subsequently fumble a fluke kickoff squib, and Dallas was indeed going to lose by that four points left out there.
Adding to my disorder is the fact that still today, the Steeler defenders involved in that game say they still don't know who was supposed to cover the TE on that failed, fateful play. We could have run it ten times, they said, and they wouldn't have gotten it covered.
Then later on Steve Young reinforced my sentiments, in commentary following the 49ers loss to Dallas in the NFC title game at Candlestick, saying, "I always felt that in championship games, every field goal you kick - especially in the second half - puts you that much closer to losing." Or something close to that.
I just had the feeling it was over right there. And like I've said, should have posted it right then. Excuse the fuck out of me for not posting it.
