They took their foot off the Pats throat and let them have some air. Game was over as soon as they settled for three.
That's nonsense... The FG put them up 17-14. They scored a TD after that to go up 24-14. There's no way anyone thought the game was over when they were up 10.

I'm ashamed to be a Wisconsin alum. the final play was called by a former Badger QB (Bevell) and the INT was thrown by a former Badger QB. bad night for the dairy state.

They scored the FG on their opening drive. They scored a TD on their next drive and got a 10 pt lead. You claimed they let up on the Pats by settling for a FG, when they didn't let up. They scored again on their next drive.
My bad posting, I meant to say they allowed 14 unanswered after they got up by 10.

But the FG set the tone for the rest of the half, a TD there would have been a backbreaker.
There's no way anyone thought the game was over when they were up 10.

I did, I just knew they would lose and likely by the exact very four points they left on the field there. Should have posted it.

I'm a huge believer in not kicking FGs in title games.

also, why the shotgun? yes, he can still hand off to Lynch in that formation, but he wouldn't have a full head of steam when he got the ball. why a formation where the D still had to respect the pass?

Carroll said something about the Pats bringing in their goalline package and it was a bad matchup with their personnel on the field to run it... Yeah no shit. Cause everyone knows you should run the ball there.

You're like captain hindsight. Come in here after the game was over and blame it on settling for the FG with 20 minutes left in the game. If Seattle would have won with a last second rushing TD, you'd be claiming you knew the game was over when the Pats played prevent defense at the end of the first half.

Probably the craziest ending ever in the Super Bowl and guy is claiming he knew it was over after the FG. GTFO.

Never kick FGs guys... not even on 4th and goal from the 20. You're just settling for 3 when you could get 7.

That look like a goalline package to anyone else? They're not bunched in very tight, the 3 DLs are in normal spread, no linebackers. Looks like they're expecting pass here.

I agree with everyone that the play call was ill advised. I think you blow them apart here and run Lynch through the seam.

No way. I would have been still raving over that on-the-back catch.

Dallas would have gone with an empty backfield. Sigh...

I don't care what they were in, what screams out to me is that they were at the one friggin yard line on 2nd down with a time out in their pocket and the battering ram of RB Lynch ready and able to win them the Super Bowl.

Stunning reversal of fortune!

But seriously, I have had mental issues with FGs in title games ever since SB 13 when Dallas kicked a FG after Jackie Smith's missed TD pass. Of course none of us knew at that point Randy White was going to later subsequently fumble a fluke kickoff squib, and Dallas was indeed going to lose by that four points left out there.

Adding to my disorder is the fact that still today, the Steeler defenders involved in that game say they still don't know who was supposed to cover the TE on that failed, fateful play. We could have run it ten times, they said, and they wouldn't have gotten it covered.

Then later on Steve Young reinforced my sentiments, in commentary following the 49ers loss to Dallas in the NFC title game at Candlestick, saying, "I always felt that in championship games, every field goal you kick - especially in the second half - puts you that much closer to losing." Or something close to that.

I just had the feeling it was over right there. And like I've said, should have posted it right then. Excuse the fuck out of me for not posting it.

But had the pass play worked, and been the game ending score, it would be all about what big balls they had and what geniuses they were.

But ur leaving 4 points out thar!!
Yeah, if you think 4th and goal from the 20 is a good percentage makeable touchdown. Which, I don't. You hate it but you do take the three there.

Only way you can have any fun is to lie about what people mean when they post? Seattle didn't have 4th and goal from the 20, and neither did Green Bay the four idiotic times they settled for three in their NFC title loss.
