It’s snowing at FedEx Field during the game between the Chiefs and Redskins. After the final gun sounds, there’s a chance that it will be raining “F” bombs.

A league source who knows Redskins owner Daniel Snyder predicts that Snyder will be livid about the report that emerged Sunday morning regarding coach Mike Shanahan nearly quitting his job in January due to concerns regarding Snyder’s relationship with quarterback Robert Griffin III. Per the source, Snyder is smart enough to see Shanahan’s fingerprints on the report from Dan Graziano of ESPN.com, who covers the Giants not the Redskins. (“That’s [Adam] Schefter’s report,” one league source speculated to PFT, in reference to the longstanding relationship between Schefter and Shanahan.)

Even if Shanahan didn’t leak the story because he wants out of D.C. (and plenty of league insiders firmly believe he did), Shanahan’s decision to give ESPN.com a “no comment” over a strenuous objection should be enough to get Snyder cranked up.

It’ll get even more interesting after the game. Per Mark Maske of the Washington Post, team spokesman Tony Wyllie said that Shanahan will address the situation during his post-game press conference.

Snyder likely will address it, too — directly with Shanahan. And this could spark a battle that results in Shanahan not being the head coach of the Redskins, possibly before the end of the day.

On that point, Maske notes via Twitter that some in the Redskins organization are wondering whether Shanahan wants out so that he can become the head coach of the Texans. If that’s the case, and if Snyder were going to fire Shanahan anyway, it makes sense for the two sides to part ways now.

Shanahan was going to quit because of Snyder's and Griffin's relationship? What the hell does that even mean; were they having dinner without inviting Shanny? What can the relationship between owner and QB be that would distress the coach?

I think that the Redskins are playing badly on purpose in this game --- they'd still be losing, so that Shanahan can be fired. I think they lose out. If the Redskins get swept by the Cowboys and quite possibly the division... he's gone. And in comes Gruden.

He's coddling Griffin and going over Shanahan's head.

Oh, like in Dallas? :lol
I never thought Snyder was as bad as Jones in that regard, but I never really paid attention to them in that way anyway.

And in comes Gruden.

If it's as bad as that would Gruden even go to Washington? No one succeeds there.

I was thinking the same watching that game. They quit on him. Time to move on for Washington.

What a shitty organization. It's like watching the same train crash over and over again.

Pretty interesting Houston speculation. Shanny wouldn't have to change a thing there because of the kubiak system. Much more stable organization too.

I really can't see Briles going there. Maybe there would be an outside-outside chance of him coaching here, because he knows Jerry and he'd stay in Texas and all that. But he's a hardcore Texas guy and might well not have any interest in the NFL, even here. Just can't imagine it... But I guess anything is possible.

People speculating Art Briles to DC.

20 mil to stay at Baylor

but gawd they look like twins

The Washington Redskins are expected to pursue Baylor's Art Briles should they fire Mike Shanahan, according to league sources.

Not only are the strugging Redskins (3-10) losing, there also is a fractured relationship between coach Mike Shanahan and ownership. With Shanahan's partnership with quarterback Robert Griffin III also in peril, the club is likely to part with Shanahan, perhaps as soon as Monday. Once that happens, several league sources believe Baylor's Art Briles will be one of their targets.

Briles coached Griffin in college and maintains a strong connection with the QB and his family. While Briles recently agreed to an extension to remain at the school, it doesn't render a move to the NFL impossible. Briles proved uniquely able to handle Griffin's ego, unique playing style and health concerns while at Baylor, and also managed Griffin's parents and inner-circle, who have gone public at times -- voicing issues with Shanahan.

Shanahan, who has one year left on his contract, absorbed a 45-10 loss on Sunday at home, before a very sparse crowd at FedEx Field. Owner Daniel Snyder, who has a very strong relationship with Griffin, could have a difficult time finding his next head coach. Snyder's repeated failures with hires have devalued the job, leading to "by default" hires like Jim Zorn. And Griffin, viewed as the organization's prized asset, undoubtedly will have some voice in the process (Snyder has long empowered certain players well beyond the norm throughout his checkered NFL history).

Great, Briles and Chip Kelly in the same division. Now all we need is the Giants to hire Dana Holgorsen and we will get to see it 6 times a year. Good thing we have Monte Kiffin, master of stopping the spread.

Apparently it's going to be tough for the Skins to fire Shanahan. They would owe him a shit ton of money.
