We wanted to not be against the wall re: picking a position. Signed couple of guards who can step in and do some nice things. have some tread on tires, size/length. Costa and Kowalski don't have the size/length. Better to get the guards later in 1st or 2nd or third rounds.

Better in what way? "Value"?

Any time you can get a guy who projects to be a Pro Bowl player for the duration of his career, I think "value" is pretty much written all over it.

The fact that guards aren't traditionally drafted high should not be a deterrent to getting a great player a position of need.

Hey Stephen, you're right, much better to draft a guy who's ability to translate is much more questionable. Tons of "value" to be had by drafting a guy who could easily be half the player you hope.

Transitioning to OG in the NFL isn't that hard. We don't draft sure-fire starters, that's the problem, and those guys are always littered in the mid-rounds.
