Steelers OC calls Rob Ryan's D 'exotic'

ARLINGTON, Texas -- As Pittsburgh’s offensive coordinator Bruce Arians had his way with Cleveland’s defense this year, but Arians had good things to say new Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, who ran the Browns defense in 2008-09.

Ryan’s 3-4 scheme is different than the defenses Pittsburgh and Green Bay will employ on Sunday in Super Bowl XLV, but Arians said there will be different looks.

“Rob this year went into a very exotic sub package,” Arians said. “They were exotic before but they really get after it this year with seven and eight defensive backs and guys standing up all over the place. He brings a lot of passion to the defense. The way he coaches, the way his brother [Rex]coaches I’ve great respect for both of them. They’re extremely bright. They know what they’re doing. They have a very sound first- and second-down package in base defense, which these players should have the skull to adapt to right away, but I think he’ll bring an exotic sub package to them. Having not played them the last couple of years I don’t know that they’ve been doing a lot of that. But he’ll definitely bring a lot of fun to the defense.”

The Steelers swept the Browns, 28-10 and 41-9 during the regular season, putting up a combined 48 first downs, 896 yards – 575 passing – and converted on 15 of 27 third-down tries.

Hard to get excited about that exotic talk from a team that put up 900 yards of offense and 69 points in their two games this season.

The first game was pretty competitive. They didnt kill them offensively and the game was close till the end when they pulled away. Pretty sure that was McCoy's first start.

The ugly game was the last game of the season, I think Pitt hung 31 pts on them in the first half. McCoy threw a bunch of picks that game too.

That last game of the season was also by far the worst for the Browns defense.

The 900 yds isnt accurate either. It was 378 in the first game and 418 the second. At least according to the box scores.
