Sources: Sean Lee out 3-4 weeks

IRVING, Texas -- If the Dallas Cowboys want to stay atop the NFC East, they will have to do so without star linebacker Sean Lee for the next three to four weeks, sources told ESPN.com.

Lee suffered a pulled left hamstring in the second quarter of Sunday's 49-17 loss to the New Orleans Saints.

Lee, who underwent an MRI on Monday, said after the game that he knew the injury was "not good."

On the short end of the timetable, Lee could miss two games since the Cowboys have a bye this week. Dallas return to the field on Nov. 24 against the New York Giants and plays the Oakland Raiders four days later on Thanksgiving. That could put Lee's return at Dec. 9 against the Chicago Bears.

"I don't want to miss any games," Lee said after Sunday's game. "I want to be out there as much as I can. But I try to do everything I can off the field to control it.

"It's one of those deals where you have to find a way now to overcome it and come back. That's the only thought is that I will be able to come back."

Lee leads the Cowboys in tackles and interceptions this season and is the heart and soul of the defense. Last season, he missed 10 games with a toe injury.

Lee missed two games as a rookie with a hamstring injury. He missed only one game in 2011 with a dislocated wrist but played a large portion of the season with a bulky cast.

Justin Durant, who replaced Lee at mike linebacker on Sunday, is also looking at a three- or four-week week absence because of a hamstring strain he suffered in the second half against New Orleans.

The Cowboys moved Ernie Sims to the middle linebacker spot and had Kyle Bosworth play the strong-side spot when they played their base defense.

I don't want to see him try to come back too early like Ware did. Lee is a speed guy and would be totally ineffective if he came back too soon.

My sources are telling it's not a pulled hamstring but a pulled uterus.

The good news is he has the same OB GYN as Newman and Matt Johnson so he'll be back soon.

You were all up on Rex Burkhead. What happened?

My comment was half in jest.

Burkhead is a player I would've liked, but not as an every down back. Just the kind of jack of all trades quality role player/leader every team needs.

That said, I haven't heard his name since hte draft so maybe I was wrong on that assessment.
