I think both sides would be willing to forego part of camp. A week or two of camp plus 4-5 preseason games is too much anyways. For the season to start on time they could likely get by with a week of camp and two preseason games. That'd give them 3 full weeks of practice with a couple of tuneups, which means the drop dead date would be a week or two into August. In that case they still have a little over a month before they have to get serious.
I think the owners are under the gun to get this done now for this exact reason. Not having camps and missing preseason games is a huge loss for the owners. They pocket all the ticket sales, parking etc...All of us have already paid long ago for our tickets which means if they dont get this done....all of us will be getting refunds for the missed preseason games.
I think I saw the number somewhere last week in the 700 million dollar range if we miss the preseason. No way the owners are willing to lose that and if we do I imagine they will dig in even further to get what they want since they paid the big loss early.
I imagine they figure it out in the next two weeks. Todd Archer said last night he was told and thinks july 18th is about the time the deal will be done and about a week later we will see players at the teams facilities and free agency open, then straight to camp...
