What is Jerry thinking?

Read Jerry's mind.

Did he make this move today because he really believes Jason Garrett is the guy or is he simply a convenient bandaid to get to the offseason where we can make a splash with a big named coach?

He made this move because that's the only thing he can do at this point.

It doesn't change a damn thing really.

So, what are you saying?

Do you think he sits here today viewing Garrett as merely holding the fort until the offseason or as the new guy for the future?

Jerry already told you what he's thinking about right now. He said that an interim coach doesn't make much of a difference.

I think he's had in mind for awhile now that Garrett will eventually be the next head coach in Dallas at some point. I think the time comes earlier than he expected. He's also going to use the CBA dispute as a reason to keep Jason as HC going into next year.

Jerry, I believe wants to see how the team responds to Garrett. Garrett doesn't need wins but does need to have a presence and sure he is aware of this.

Jerry doesn't want to go after a big name coach that would cost twice as much as Garrett so he's hoping that Garrett can provide even a small spark so he can sell him as our leader for the future.

Also with the impending lockout, Jerry can use that as an excuse for at least opening next season with Garrett as our HC, as a matter of fact I'm sure Garrett will start 2011 as the HC of the Dallas Cowboys.

Our D. coordinator could still change if the lockout ends before the heart of the offseason begins.

He's doing the only thing he can. Cowboys Stadium would be a ghost town in two Sundays. Why not kick the tires on Garrett? If we've found something we're that much more ahead.

I know Matt Mosley was on ESPN Radio this morning before the firing and stated no way will Garrett be the head coach next year. Jerry can't sell it. The new guy has to be someone from the outside.

Yeah I heard him too.

It all depends on these next 8 weeks. If nothing changes Jones clearly has to go get someone else. I dont necessarily agree that its fair, but he's losing the fans and will need a big splash.

I am excited to see how Garrett handles this though. I still think he;s gonna be a good HC and I'd rather it be here than for someone else.

After his press conference, I'm hoping he's our guy in 2011 and longer.

I think he's going to be one hell of a coach.

All the talk radio shows around here seem to think Garrett is merely a bridge to a big name coach in the offseason.

I think they underestimate the ego of Jerry Jones. Of course he wants to keep Garrett. That would mean more pretending that he can run a football team.

That's all I've been hearing as well. I generally only listen to M&M on the drive to work, but they, along with all their guests all seem to believe it's a forgone conclusion that Garrett will be canned.

It's making me root for JG all the more.

ESPN keeps pressing on about this being a short-term job for Garrett, which makes me think Jerry will hire him for the long term.

I disagree. Garrett doesn't seem like an obvious puppet like Wade. Garret has a pair. He's arrogant.

And Garrett is stubborn.

That is why on Sunday we will witness more of Barber and giving up on the run way too early. And this pass happy Dallas team will lose again.

I guess we'll see. I'm sure some of you would be quite happy to see another blowout loss.

I'll be Grinch smiling.

I hope the Giants are up by 5 touchdowns at halftime.

The owner is closer to making a real change than he's been since he took the team hostage 16 years ago. I don't want him having one single positive thought on this team heading into the offseason.

Thats fine, but I'd prefer that Garrett be the real longterm answer as HC, here.

Seeing him get away and then become a highly successful coach elsewhere would be really crappy.

Regardless of who ends up HC, Jerry is probably going to be stepping back a bit I suspect.

Garrett staying here means Jerry continues to act as GM.

Garrett being fired and a big name coach coming in means Jerry at least backs off some and lets the new coach put together his own staff and wield full authority in the locker room.

This is why I believe nobody is pulling harder for Garrett than Jerry. The last thing he wants to do is give up control.
