I hate to even say it, but I'm cautiously optimistic about this offseason so far. I hate to see Ware go, but from a cap standpoint, it needed to be done. That was why I was talking about trading him for awhile now (still think they could have gotten something for him)
Melton on a 1 year prove it deal with club options is a good way to go about business with a guy coming off of injury and off the field concerns. Curious to see what the numbers end up being.
Weeden is a smart move just from the standpoint that they gave him minimum dollars/no signing bonus. Worst case, he's another arm that can actually let you run your offense in camp while Romo recovers that you cut with no real repercussions. Best case, he pushes Orton off the roster, saves the team a few bucks and acts as a bridge for a year in the post Romo years when they draft someone.
I don't really get the Mincey or McClain deals. I understand depth, but why a multi year deal for Mincey for anything more than the minimum?
They've held off restructuring either bad contracts and making them worse (Carr) or aging players (Witten) to give them cap flexibility in the future. They should be in much better shape for '15 and '16 now.
Still a lot of work to do. The DL needs a lot of pieces yet. They are going to need a tackle this year or next. Going to need another LB this year or next. The safeties still suck and they don't appear inclined to do anything about it.
Need to have a good draft. Value your picks. Quit throwing away a 2nd (which should be a starter on an 8-8 team) on moving or luxury picks.
