At 6-2, 255 lbs I don't see him beefy enough for interior DL, and not really seeing him on the outside. He's got speed enough for the Mike spot. I wonder if the geniuses in Dallas have thought of this.

Of course they haven't. They're the same ones who drafted 3-4 defensive players, then switched to a 4-3.

Eh, no. He ran like a 4.9 at the combine, and has never played anywhere but on the line. LB is completely different.

He doesn't have the hips for it. He struggles backpedaling.

If his name were Michael Will Sam that would be pretty cool. All three 4-3 linebackers.

I'm no scout but he just looks like a straight ahead player. Doesn't possess the athleticism for a ilb.

Yea I remember reading around the time of the draft that he was being discussed as a possible 3-4 olb in a defense a lot like the ravens or steelers..but even that would be a tough conversion for him. Doubtful he'll be able to play mike in a Tampa 2.

But hell... Still with all this, it can't hurt a thing to try him out as Mike against the first team offense in practice. Might discover the next "mad dog" Lawrence Taylor.

If we ran a 43 defense similar to Jim Johnson's 43 D when he had Jerimiah Trotter. Basically just using the mike to attack the A gaps then yea I could see the reasoning behind moving Sam there. But even then Trotter was a bull in that scheme.. Not sure how successful Sam would be in that role..

Nah let's see what he can do as things are. He might have a killer instinct for it.
