The new Tampa 2 defense is designed to reduce the number of big plays the Dallas Cowboys give up in passing game because the safeties play so deep.

Defensive line coach Rod Marinell also hopes it also creates more negative plays in the running game.

The Cowboys had only 35 tackles for loss against the run last season, 31st in the NFL. Tampa Bay led the league with 89.

Wow.

Marinelli believes defensive tackle Jason Hatcher and Jay Ratliff, if he can ever get healthy, can be disruptive players in the scheme.

"This defense is all about speed, quickness and up-the-field pressure," Marinelli said. "We want to be disruptive every play."

If his defensive line can create more negative plays, then the

This thread is perfect. I was just getting ready to start a thread similar to this.

2012 Bears Defense vs 2013 Cowboys Defense

Everyone here is worrying about our depth on our DL...make no mistake, I was and still am somewhat worried..Bears defense last year was sick, I don't have to post the stats..what specifically about the Bears defensive line is so much better than ours now that we can't match or get close to matching their statistical numbers?

IMO, our linebackers are WAAAAAAAAY better than theirs were last year. We can talk about safeties later, bc yes, ours are a huge question mark...but as of now, DL depth seems to be everyone's main worry.

Show me how the bears DL from last year is significantly better than ours now to warrant this worry.

Melton and Peppers = Pro Bowlers

Shea McClellin had a decent rookie season. 1st round pick in 2012.

Corey Wooten = 3rd year vet & had 7 sacks last year, starting 7 games.

Stephen Pea is a space eater that lets Melton kill babies.

Israel Adonojea or whatever was versatile and could play DE/DT

That had a decent mix of young talent and veterans.

We have solid veterans and a bunch of unknowns who lack pedigree.

Yeah, Peppers is a monster (I admit I always thought he was a little overrated at Carolina) and Melton turned out to be a Pro Bowler. Plus IA is pretty good, just sort of under the radar.

I do think it's fair to point out that those guys other than Peppers weren't blue chippers, and don't have much more pedigree than our guys. And I like the chances of Marinelli putting together a very good group here in time. Question is do we have that right now, because we don't know how these guys will do in the new defense right away.

Spencer and Ware are WAY better than their ends.

Hatcher is relatively similar to Melton production wise.

I'll give you Paea..we don't have that big body.

This is if we get nothing from Ratliff. We won't get nothing from him but I'm not counting on much

Ratliff is a bender away from being gone. Spencer got bird bones in the off season. Our depth looks like a UFL second team. I'm not holding my breath.
