Nelson is garbage

Griffen and branch are fine upgrades but are they cost-effective?

Nelson is garbage based on what? How is Branch much better?

Also, i can't see Branch pulling in huge dollars. Griffin may get a tad pricey, but not more than 6 or 7 mil a year i wouldn't think.

At least griffen, branch, or Landry never busted w/ their original teams.

The position is far too fickle to fall in love w/ a Brandon merriweather or Reggie Nelson b/c of a stat or two that says he finally had good year

that is the thing, if we go young on defense and bring in say 5 draft picks along with butler, udrafted guys and then maybe a young ufa signing.....its basically not fair to ryan and the staff if they struggle while learning the defense and the league.

that is the main reason why I dont want ryan here. I think this is a huge offseason and it should be the offseason that lays the groundwork for the next 5 years or so, especially on the defense....so I want a better coordinator here to be steering that ship.

and rob ryan is not getting a head coaching job anywhere anytime soon.

I can agree with this to some extent.

Rob Ryan is not a long-term answer at DC if only because he will move to somewhere else. People can bash him for this last season's play but given the players he had, improving the defense by a TD over what was there last year isn't something to scoff at. It's not like Dallas played some cupcake schedule against opposing offenses either. Hell, two top 10 offenses were in the division.

I don't think this year was indicative of what Ryan can do.

Right, but he has never done it anywhere.

He has never had the results his brother had, he has never even coordinated a defense that made the playoffs.

If his last name was smith or Johnson or something he would be treated like campo.

And on that topic campo actually wasa proven defensive coordinator and a better one than rob Ryan has ever been. People don't like to acknowledge this stuff because he keeps telling everyone how good are players are.

I still loved the flex defense bit in the first preseason game.

It's just to me from here forward I think the team should be turning over every stone they can to get better. Keeping Ryan aroud I don't think really does that.

He's never coached anywhere with a team worth a shit and it isn't like he's been a DC for an eternity.

Hell, the DCs for NE, NO and DET all got to the playoffs. I suppose that's indicative of a good DC.

I'll agree he's probably given more credit than he deserves based on his name but to hold him accountable for not being able to get to the playoffs as a COORDINATOR on two of the more shittier teams over the past decade or so is a little bit of a reach.
