Long was the safer pick at the time...and LT is a hugely important position, but it is not as important when you are blocking for Chad Henne.

It's a QB driven league. If you don't have a QB, you have nothing.

You always take a blue chip QB prospect over a LT.

Long is a good player. But the Dolphins haven't had a QB since Marino. They should have been running to the podium to take Matt Ryan.

But Parcells DID get his QB in the 2nd round the following year. Pat White. lol

Parcells has said that if he had to make that decision again he would still take Jake Long.

The team needed a franchise left tackle and a QB so it could of went either way.

It may turn out to be the right decision if the Dolphins have the worst record this year, they get Luck anyways.

I have no idea what Luck has to do with any of this...this Parcells/Ireland/Sparano regime were the ones who took Long, but they will not be here if they luck into Luck. This was not their plan 4 years ago. They should have taken Ryan, plain and simple.

You are correct but the current regime doesn't have to make that decision if Brees is the current signal caller. The Dolphins had a chance for redemption but screwed the pooch again with bypassing Ryan. The organization has essentially passed on 2 franchise QB's in the past decade.

Only smart move they did make at QB was passing on Brady Quinn in 2007 but they turned that right around into another colossal crapfest and took Ted Ginn instead.

The problem with that is the word 'might'. They had a shot at a franchise QB when they haven't had one for a long time. And still don't have one.

I don't hate Parcells at all. In fact, I think he was very good at what he did.

But the way some people slurp his cock, you'd think this guy won 10 superbowls and cured terminal diseases in the offseason.

Very good team builder. Especially when he was younger. Mediocre game day coach. Especially when he was older.
