Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com reports according to a source with knowledge of the situation, intermediaries for the Miami Dolphins have contacted people close to Cowher about coaching the team.

Everyone will deny this because no one wants to admit they are looking to fill a job that's already filled. In this case, the job of Tony Sparano. The Dolphins issued a statement to CBSSports.com declining comment.

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has flirted with coaching candidates while employing a sitting coach. Last January, Ross was heavily criticized for courting Jim Harbaugh while Sparano was still leading the team. Ross decided to stick with Sparano. I believe the extreme secrecy and back-channel pursuit of Cowher, instead of reaching out to Cowher directly, is a result of the criticism Ross endured after his pursuit of Harbaugh.

-------------

This is somewhat off topic... but I have to say that, while I love the NFL season, and spend all off season counting down until the NFL season... I really enjoy the transactions of the NFL off season - coaching moves, drafts, free agency, etc.

The NFL is a 12 month addiction for me.

You knew Cowher's name would eventually come up for a coaching job.

I think they would have to throw insane money( as in highest paid in the NFL) and give him full control before he woud condiser coaching that team.

Sparano should just take his belongings and suitcase on the sideline with him because he already has pink slip with his name on it stashed away in the front office. Can't see how this team can get motivated to play for a dead coach walking now that rumors are swirling about the hiring of a new coach. Not a good recipe.

Tony Sparano has been getting shit on from that organization over and over again. I'd like to see him tell Ross to go fuck himself and just quit. I know that would never happen because he'd lose money, etc... but they way Ross has been treating him, I don't think anybody would fault him if he did.

If I were getting paid millions, my boss could come into my office and teabag me every day for all I cared.

I always thought Sporano was of normal height. But after seeing him on the sidelines, I'm thinking he's 5'4".

I could pay you pretty well to be my assistant.

And my mom said I was quite the looker.

I call your bluff. I understand you were in the Army, which leads me to believe you failed your ASVAB.

Hell... you're probably a career laborer like Sheik. Hauling roofs around town with 10 illegals in the back of your pick up.

Easy there. I was US Army as well. The guys that fail the ASVAB usually go to the Marines. Unless, they are gay. Then they join the Navy.

No, I used to work roofing when I was a kid, tho.

I'm an oilfield completions consultant. I sit in my pickup and tell the rig crews what to do. Pretty sweet gig. I'm actually at work right now. WOOT!

So, you want the job or not?

Pretty effed up how they're treating this guy. He's had the worst QBs in the league to work with and the team is still semi-competitive. I hope we get him back here to help control Ginger.
