I doubt the NFL would waste time to investigate if they had no intention of punishing the team. I'm not sure where you draw the line if this has been going on for years, but if I'm an NFC East rival, and you know a team circumvented the salary cap restrictions by just paying bonuses under the table to players, then there better be some repercussions. Dallas could have easily kept a player like Chris Canty by just paying him under the table performance-based bonus money in order to stay out of cap trouble. So what happened between '04-'07 still effects the present time.

I can't see anything happening to the skins unless they can prove that money was given to the skin players from coaches/FO or wealthy supporters.

That would be enough proof of salary cap circumvention for Sheriff G.

Just announced on NFL Total Access that non of Williams' former teams are up for punishment. Keep those fingers crossed though!

It's all speculation at this point but the consistent opinion is that the punishment will be more severe than Spygate for the reasons I stated above. Tom Benson knew of it and asked for it to be stopped but did nothing to actively ensure that would occur. Sean Payton knew and turned the other cheek. Surely the Saints GM will be canned for going against the orders of his own boss, but Goodell is going to have pressure from other owners and the players association in this case.

Plus, it's just much worse to be paying non contract bonuses (huge salary cap violation) and actively trying to injure other players than it is to video tape some practices. Spygate resulted in lost draft picks, so the automatic assumption is the same here.

The Greg William's bounty BS only worked in New Orleans.

I wonder if there would be this much of an uproar if they didn't win a SB title with it....
Especially while knocking around 2 HOF QBs in the process.

I have no clue at this point. I think the media has just blown it up and gone way over the top.

Still, the punishment should be more severe than Spygate, as there were direct rules violations here that not only promoted injuries, but also violated the salary cap structure. Other owners are pissed off too. That's a fact and it has been confirmed, so this won't just be swept under the rug. They'll bring the hammer down and set a punishment severe enough so that it won't occur again.

It's interesting to me that Benson is supporting his GM. I would not personally allow that type of insubordination from an employee.

The fact that they're probing the Redskins should worry their fans. I guess the focus is strictly on NO, but if there is evidence against the Skins that comes up (combined with the fact that Dungy thinks it permanently damaged Manning's neck), then you'll see them get punished too.

Greg Williams seems doomed. They're probably gonna make an example out of him.

Was listening to NFL radio and during there ticker thing they said a former redskin and I didn't catch his name said that Joe Gibbs himself used to give out 100 dollars personally to defensive players who got hits on the qb.

Wasn't Gibbs completely surprised by this the other day and wasn't Greg blache trying to take some heat away from saint Gibbs?.

Going to be funny if we find out Gibbs knew about it and encouraged it because he himself used to do it!!
