My question is why the fuck was he given a new contract when he had 2 years remaining on his old one?

If I'm not mistaken this would be his last year with his old contract and we'd be completely done with him. Unbelievable. You don't do that in the first place, let alone with a 285 lb 30 year old DT. Jerry is the worst GM in football. Easily.

Ballin' on a budget.

#1 valued NFL franchise.

You're wrong if you think he's playing for anybody this year. You can blame Jerry's ego for a lot of things. But Ratliff wasn't coming back this year. 0 chance of that. So blaming Jerry's ego on this release doesn't work.

The rest of your argument is valid.

Some are speculatiing that they did it mid season so they can file a grievance for him not rehabbing his injury correctly and recoup some or all of the cap penalty for next year.

That's pretty shrewd if true.

There's probably a penalty for filing such a grievance and Ratliff will be doubled charged against our cap next yr

I doubt that. Why would there be? He didn't rehab at the team's facilities and showed up still injured. We shouldn't owe him a dime because of that.

If you don't think the way Ratliff was dealt with this year is a result of him challenging Jerry last year then you are in serious denial.

Not saying Ratliff was without fault here but this was one last F U from Emperor Jones.

The book on Jerry is employees do not challenge him EVER.

Who cares what he does. He's a POS. I don't care if he gets 20 sacks next year.

Yikes. I would care if he got 20 sacks. That would mean the team didn't project his injury or ability accurately. I don't think it's going to happen though. He was overachieving when he was younger and more healthy. He is not going to be able to get 164% out of an engine that's functioning at about 80%.

So I guess the moves saves $600Kish this year with a $6.9 million cap hit next year. His salary was $8 million something so the team saves like $1.3 million against the cap next year

Yep, the same savings we would have had if we cut him in the off-season.

One thing I will say is Jerry has made a few moves now (Livings, Ratliff) that get the player completely off the books before 2015. I'm guessing he is preparing for huge contracts for Dez and Tyron. I wonder if the the 600k in cap room now will be put to use. We should be about $2.3M under the cap now.

So wtf happened exactly here??

He told Jerry to go fuck himself.

Then he got a DUI.

Jerry and company told Jay they were going to put him on PUP as a disciplinary move but also that he was hurting the team. Told this to a guy who's a little off to begin with and who just gave the last 8 years of his career fighting his ass off.

Jay pissed around and after his salary was guaranteed decided he'd start being an asshole just to show Jerry that he doesn't give a fuck about his thoughts.

Jerry probably told Jay that he wasn't going to play again for Dallas.

Jay said, "fuck you, let me go and bag up all the money you owe me".

Jay's not really all that hurt right now, he's gonna probably be starting for another team in a few weeks.

I AM NOT GUESSING!!!!!!!

It was widely reported last year that after a game Jerry challenged Jay and implied he could play.....Jay took offense and someone had to come over to calm things down and keep Jay from killing Jerry on the spot.

Funny Werder tweet

@Edwerderespn: Wonder what Jerry Jones would think if the GM who spent $18M guaranteed on Jay Ratliff was someone he hired for job instead of himself.

Jerry will say he would probably fire that GM. Then he would tell you how he was GM when they won 3 Super Bowls.
