I think that answers your question about prorating cap hit across two years. I don't think they could have done it if it wasn't treated that way

About time. Too bad Jerry didn't learn from the TO extension and then quick release.

Did Stephen have to push daddy up against the wall to get this one done too?

no way he's still hurt. despite a crying need for him on the line, he gave his teammates the finger and chose not to play. he's just an insubordinate asshole. good riddance.

Wow. The defensive line is in disarray and Ratliff is released? Jerry's ego trumps any need this roster might have.

In defense of Jerry (did I just write that?), I don't think Rat had any intention of playing for this team ever again.

He's under contract and he made a ton of money. This just allows him to go out and get more money and possibly come back to haunt us.

I would have made him play and if he refused, you can suspend him and get back some of the money. I don't see the advantage of releasing him here, it doesn't even create a roster spot.

Who cares. He's not here anymore just because he has a fat contract.

Yeah, who cares that more than a quarter of our cap room every year goes to guys who don't play for us. Everything is fine. well ran organization. We showed him.

I never claimed we were a well run organization and I was against the extension from the word 'go'.

Yeah, he might return to haunt us, but at a very reduced rate. Something we foolishly went against the grain with.

I'd rather we'd have done that than stuck by the guy ever hoping that he would reincarnate into the next Warren Sapp in our Tampa 2 at the ripe old age of 32. Sort of like how we're sticking by Austin; how we stuck by Roy E Williams, et al.

He wasn't worth the contract from the beginning and as sure as shit isn't worth it now. Good riddance.

All true but cutting him midseason does nothing. Just means he gets his money and we don't get the cap room to replace him.

Idiot fans (and maybe media) will send the message to Jerry that getting rid of Ratliff sends a strong message. It does. Unfortunately, the message is keep doing what you're doing moron.

I'd move Crawford inside to the 3 spot, take a couple of Dlinemen in the draft (Chaz Sutton for one) and bring in a couple of intriguing young vets on the cheap again.
