Future Hall of Famer Moss abruptly retires

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Randy Moss has abruptly decided to retire from the NFL.
Moss' agent cites the underwhelming offers thus far in free agency. As Profootballtalk's Gregg Rosenthal predicted in March, Moss' pride won't allow him to take a big pay cut, so he's walking away at age 34. Moss will of course reserve the right to reverse his decision if an ardent suitor comes calling. If this is the end, Moss walks away eighth in career receptions (954), fifth in receiving yards (14,858), and second only to Jerry Rice in receiving TDs (153). Arguably the most dangerous deep threat in NFL history, Moss will be voted into the Hall of Fame after much debate.

He'll play somewhere this year. Don't be fooled. His feelings were hurt when NE didn't want him back.

Plus, he wanted the same deal Ochostinko got from the Pats. And the Jets went the other way with Plaxico. One year deal. They didn't want to pay Randy for a 3 year deal.

That's a shame. I was hoping the Cowboys would get one last chance to actually beat the guy sometime this season.

Horrible, but Ellis was a lights-out player before he broke his leg. He was never the same after that. We still should have taken Moss. He was a once in a lifetime player.

I agree, but he would've been wasted here so I'm ambivalent. That said, Jerry should still DIAF for pulling that little stunt.

His first two years he would have been awesome paired with Irvin. I think we would have gone to the Superbowl his rookie year and faced Denver. If Minnesota went all the way to the NFC Championship game with Randall Cunningham only to lose because of a missed field goal, we could have won with the Triplets and Moss.

It's the right decision. He's just a name, now.

You think so?

People said the same thing when he was dying out in Oakland.

He had 3 TDs in 4 games with the Pats last year. I think it's safe to say he shut it down after he was moved off the contenders roster and to a struggling Minnesota team, then the Titans.

He had 13 tds in 2009 and was on pace to top that before NE traded him last year. I think he's a selfish prick, but I don't think he's washed up yet.

The Titans took Kevin Dyson over this guy.

Kevin "tackled a yard short in the Super Bowl" Dyson.

Well played, Titans. Well played.

They did, but we were always the team that got blamed for passing on Moss, not them.

Moss isn't washed up, its just that no one wants a WR who gives up when balls aren't going his way. If we picked him up teams wouldn't know who to cover between him, Austin and Dez. I don't want him here but I think it would put our passing game over the top.
