The questions regarding running back Joseph Randle have little to do with talent and everything to do with trust.
He was arrested last October for shoplifting, and he was involved in a domestic dispute in Wichita, Kansas, last February, though no charges were filed.
“You’ll have to ask coach that,” Randle said. “In my eyes, I feel like I’ve done the things necessary to earn trust, but you’ll have to ask them and figure out what they think because what I think and what they think can be two different things.’
Randle averaged 6.7 yards on 54 carries last year. He carried 51 times as a rookie. Obviously, he’s looking to be a much bigger part of the offense this season.
Starting isn’t as big a deal as playing time.
“The coaches are going to do their job,” said Randle, “and I’m just going to go out there and take advantage of all the opportunities I’m given.”
Play-caller Scott Linehan said the Cowboys trust Randle.
“What he’s doing in practice, what he’s done in training camp makes us feel 100 percent confident he’s prepared for this,” Linehan said. “The great thing for him, Darren [McFadden] and Lance [Dunbar] is they have a big opportunity to go out and prove what they’re capable of doing.”
