Cowboys might seek tackle high in draft.
By Eric Edholm
Of all the directions the Cowboys could go with their first overall draft pick, offensive tackle makes a good deal of sense. Sure, a cornerback could be a high priority if the team releases Terence Newman, but the offensive line is a crucial area in bad need of replenishment. OLT Doug Free is a building block, but ORT Marc Colombo may be damaged goods, having battled through several injuries. Other spots need repair inside, although those probably wouldn't be addressed in the draft until later on down the line. The question then would be if the Cowboys would take a right tackle with the ninth pick. Perhaps that would be a bit high, so don't be shocked if the pick is for sale. The Cowboys' interest in Cam Newton widely was viewed as a smoke screen, and league insiders believed it could be Jerry Jones' way of letting the NFL know he might be willing to move down if the right trade offer arises. Drafting a tackle further down in the draft would make a lot of sense.
