For conversations sake and to help pass time. . .

Say we're gonna go OLine with the first two picks. Which scenario would you rather have?

Scenario A.)
First round pick #9 - Tyron Smith, OT
Second round pick #40 - Marcus Cannon, OG

Simple. No trades.

OR

Scenario B.)
First round w/ trade down - Mike Pouncey, OG/C
Second round pick#40 - Derrick Sherrod, OT

The trade down netted us a 3rd or possibly even a 2nd round draft pick.

I'd rather have A. Only because there is no way that Sherrod makes it out of the 1st round let alone to pick #40.

But that is some choice. I'd probably go back and forth on it. I say A right now, but within a few minutes, I could just as easily go for B.

Or how about adding scenario C.)

First round w/ trade down - Derrick Sherrod, OT
Second round pick#40 - Marcus Cannon, OG

The trade down netted us a 3rd or possibly even a 2nd round draft pick.

Now this option would seem to be more realistic than scenario B.

The reason I had Sherrod falling to pick 40 was to justify us taking two OLinemen. Otherwise I think if we go guard first then its unlikely we go OT in the 2nd without another trade down. And two trade downs from our top two original selections is very unlikely.

Besides, the trade down from pick 9 - take a different OT - then grab a guard in the 2nd scenario has been proposed before. I wanted to go a little more original and have the two scenario's different.

Oh and BTW, Kiper's lastest mock had Sherrod going 32nd to the Packers.

Scenario B. It gives us another solid pick, and we still get two potential starters.

Scenario A, without question. Long term I think both those guys are better prospects than the guys you have in scenario B. And both of them offer alot of flexibility.

I went with scenario B because of the extra pick, and Sherrod could easily take over for Colombo.

Also, Pouncey can play both the G/C positions. Don't get me wrong I like both Smith and Cannon but we could use that extra pick, especially if it's another second or third rounder.

It's a tough decision either way.

Scenario B is extremely unlikely the way he set it up though, as Sherrod probably has no chance of being available in the 2nd rd. To do what he suggested, you'd almost assuredly have to trade back up from 40 to have a chance.

Take the higher rated prospects and run.

Right, seeing Sherrod is climbing the draft boards and being projected to go no later than 32.

It is possible that he slips to our 40th pick.

I understand that. But let's deal with reality. Personally, my favorite which you didn't display would be for us to trade down, get extra picks, and still get Tyron Smith and Marcus Cannon.

Sherrod could be plugged in at LT on day 1. Move Free over to RT.

Well anybody projected in the 1st round will go no later than 32. LOL. He is not going to make it to #40. There are a number of teams in the 2nd round before that if they do not snag an OT, they will snag him. Getting the extra draft pick to only give it back to trade up and get Sherrod makes no sense when you could have simply had Smith and Cannon.

Trading down and still getting Tryon Smith is not reality though. Its more likely he'll go before our pick than anything else at this point.

OK since you don't wanna let go of Sherrod not falling, as players always do in every draft. You do realize there's only 80 points that separates the #40 pick from the #33, right? 80 points would be equivalent to that of our 4th round pick. So we wouldn't be trading the 3rd or possibly 2nd that we acquired from the trade down. And thats IF we even had to trade up 1-8 slots if Sherrod fell into the 2nd.

Depends on how far we were to trade down. If we trade down to the Lions' pick at #14 I believe then we would be gold. They are the only team from#9 to about #20 that would have serious interest in Smith as the Cowboys and they will only go after Smith if Amukamara is off the board, so yes it's very realistic that we could trade down and still get Smith. More realistic than trading down and drafting Pouncey and thinking that Sherrod will be there at #40.

I'm just saying don't get too excited on a player like Tyron Smith.

There's a lot of rumors out there that he's our pick. Do you really think we would want other teams to know who we are drafting?

I think a lot of teams are blowing smoke up each others asses right now. Don't be surprised come draft day if we select a guy like Robert Quinn or trade down.
