All joking aside for a minute, I never read anything into these training camp reports unless it's a pattern of something obvious, like Dez looking great. Way, way too many of these little blurbs are based on one play a reporter sees and says something about. When I've been to camp it's amazing how often some play gets mentioned that means nothing in the bigger picture. For instance sometimes a "sack" comes when the QB, usually some scrub backup, holds the ball way, way too long -- stuff like that.

Even a lot of the "play of the day" type plays aren't even worth mentioning. It's just that they have to put *something* down on virtual paper.

We've seen the "bigger picture" for two straight seasons and it's not much better, amigo. It got so bad at one point that people were actually yearning for Costa to return from injury.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying our OL is going to be good. Nor that those blurbs to be ignored apply only to the negative. It goes for the positive, too. That's usually how these annual training camp wonders (like that WR this year) get blown up... They catch some bomb for a TD, yeah -- but Archer or whoever doesn't mention it was in individual drills when the QB held the ball five seconds and the DB was some camp body who will be cut next week.

This what I read about Free .... from Broaddus:

Another player who is off to a nice start in camp is Doug Free. In the first day of pads, I thought he did a nice job of showing up and handling the position with some nice technique. In just watching him play, you can see that his confidence level is much better as well. With each rep, he has been on point with how his hands and feet have to work together. His sets have put him in positions where he looks stable and solid.
LINK

Of course, Broaddus could just as easily be wrong and/or basing his opinion on very limited reps.

Every training camp the D is ahead of the Offence so I'm not to worried about the struggles. In 3 weeks from now if they are still getting blown up I'll be worried. Our Oline is definitely our weak link on offence, but it is promising that their best day came when they had pads on. Hopefully we get our top 2 guards back, whoever that may be, and develop some cohesiveness.

Is Bass going to go into the season as Spencer and Ratliff's primary backup?

Sounds like he is the second best option behind Hatcher. Scary and pathetic.

Lions waive guard Bill Nagy

Posted by Mike Wilkening on July 25, 2013, 4:47 PM EDT

APThe Lions have waived offensive guard Bill Nagy, Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com reported Thursday.

Nagy, 25, was a seventh-round pick of the Cowboys in 2011. He started four games at guard for Dallas a rookie before suffering a broken left ankle. He then missed all of the 2012 season after a high-ankle sprain and surgery on the same leg. The Lions claimed him on waivers last August from Dallas.

With Nagy departing, the Lions now have an open spot on their 90-player roster.

Pick him up!

I'm curious as to why they let him go. They haven't had much of a chance to see him in action.

Guess his injury hasn't healed correctly.

All I know is last year we "fixed" the o-line with Bengal, Viking, and Panther cast-offs. Tells me all I need to know.

No to Nagy and his moped wrecking, non starting on his college team ass

His college coach was surprised he was drafted

We'll probably see him in camp tomorrow

If you're going to quote me, at least do it properly.
