Dammit dbair, you made me turn it over there to hear his nonsense...

When asked about RB, he had the nerve to say we didn't want to reach for need.
Are you kidding me? Jerry and Stephen told us the first several picks (minus maybe Gregory) were about need.

So he basically said that it was a need that went unfilled?

15 RBs were drafted and the timing wasn't right for a single one of them, apparently.

He said there were some RB's they liked a early to middle that got picked before they went on the clock, then said if they had reached for a RB later they'd have been behind who we currently have.

It seems strange. Almost makes you wonder if they have something going on for Peterson after all.

But like people were saying, the Vikes didn't take a single running back and don't have anyone else who is really any good.

Only other option then is they know their OL is great, and they think these other guys will do ok.

Wasn't it Laufenberg who said 8 or 10 teams tried to sign Ryan Williams off our PS? Maybe they were telling him all along to stay and he'd get a real legit chance to be the #1 back here this yr.

How do you try and sign a player off the PS, and not succeed?

Well, when the Cowboys fail to convert a 3rd and 2 in a big game, at least we'll all be comforted knowing that the franchise was disciplined enough not to take a better RB a half round too early. At least we'll have that.

No worries. All of these JAG's we're drafting will... well, they won't be doing jack shit.

You just match the salary they were going to pay him.

Still seems weird a guy would pass on a real job unless maybe he knew he'd only be a short term injury replacement.

True, and the other side of it ...

if the Cowboys really thought Williams was a high quality replacement for Murray ... why the heck would they have kept him inactive all year? Even when Murray had a broken hand?

Seems doubtful something like that would happen. But I really like Ryan Williams, hard to bank on a guy that was on the PS last year but I'd love for him to turn it around and be our guy this year. Dez Bryant has been saying this offseason that Ryan Williams has been working his ass off. Maybe thats giving the Cowboys coaches some confidence along with the addition of McFadden.

Ok. I didn't know the PS worked like that. I always thought if a team tried to sign another player off another team's PS, that team had to place him on the 53-man roster.

So basically, all Dallas had to do was match what another team has offered and they can keep said player on he PS and not place them on their own 53-man roster?

He was impressive in TC and he was highly regarded in the draft class he was in.

It's up to the player to decide if he wants to go. It's not like being claimed on waivers.

I don't think PS salaries are negotiated, they're set I believe.

Laufenberg claimed a lot of teams wanted to sign him to their active roster and wanted to stay.

We rarely use an RB/running play on 3rd and 2 anyway. 90% of the time at least... we always pass on that situation. It's fucking maddening and is just one of many things I cannot fucking stand about Garrett.

He out thinks himself. 3rd and long... everyone expects pass, Garrett will call a run play. Now many times Murray would almost get it by missing it by a yard or even a FOOT. This is where his lack of a second gear hurt us.

But 3rd and 2... Murray could get you 2 yards and then some, but asshat Garrett would call a pass play. Case in point. Do you remember the first Redskins' game and it went into OT? We held the Redskins to a FG. We get the ball back. Murray on the first run play runs off 8n yards. It's 2nd and 2. Garrett calls a pass. Incomplete. 3rd and 2. Garrett calls another pass. Incomplete. 4th and 2 --- game on the line with this play. Guess what? Garrett calls another pass. Incomplete. Game over. Redskins win. Murray on the sidelines throws his fucking helmet down, because obviously he is pissed for not getting his number called.

People want to call Jerry a meddler, well in a situation like that, he should have meddled and made Garrett call Murray's number.

Anybody watching ESPN?

"A great way to be welcomed to the Falcon family." - said the announcer about a rookie whose house burned down.

I get it, and it somewhat drives me crazy too but this isn't just a Cowboy or Garrett thing, it the way the league is now. Almost every team throws on 3rd and more than a yard.

Were they playing Talking Heads in the background?

They can pay whatever they want. They usually don't, of course, because most of these guys are scrubs you don't care about that much.
