Anyone who thinks that guns keep the government in check is detached from reality. If they wanted to they could kill as many people as they like and it would only take a few presses of a button and a couple of airplanes to do it.

I know you understand what has happened every time a government has disarmed it's people or a particular segment of people based on some irrational criteria. Do you believe it is a coincidence?

I fully understand and agree with the left vs. right thing being used as a distraction, but for example SP and I are at the opposite ends on about 90% of the topics. He is for bigger more expensive government, higher taxes etc. where I fall on the opposite side. I do not see that changing any time soon. Maybe we should start a thread on things we can agree on.

The thing is, I feel like conservatives have been burned by false promises from the left for decades. I do not trust what they say. Lets take one on my favorites on the right. Reagan gave a mile on taxes and amnesty based on the reassurances that congress would secure the boarder and cut spending. The right took definitive irreversible legal actions based on lies the left feed them regarding what they would do.

Does anyone here really believe congress will finally secure the border with Mexico when the next amnesty passes (or is decreed) despite what they have promised?

Of course it would be easy to point at the Rinos and Bush and say they should have cut spending and not increased unfunded entitlements, but then again they were not conservatives, they were closer to old school democrats.

The people you would be revolting against.

And I doubt storming military basis would go over all that well.

The white flag is in full display and the fight hasn't even started.

You are forgetting a small detail.
The military oath.
It does not swear to protect the government.
It swears to protect the Constitution.
Now,remember this?
"We are 5 days away from the fundamental transformation of this nation"?
How about "We need a civilian force just as strong, just as well funded as the military to meet the security challenges of the 21st century"?

Put them together. He said those things before getting elected in '08.

Oath before orders.

It also says to obey the orders of the President of the United States and the officers appointed above you. If you're going to use something to further an argument, be honest and include it all.

But the good thing is, it is also the duty of each soldier to not follow an unlawful order. And firing upon the citizens they swore to protect in that oath would be a prime example of that.

I think they could revolt. I think the largest barrier is the mindset that the other party is totally responsible for all the problems.

Both parties feed their gullible flock this bullshit and as long as people continue to allow themselves to be divided by politicians, they can keep fucking people in the ass.

As long as the people fight each other, the government knows that the people will not fight them. It's quite clever.

i also think this is why they keep plodding out "gay rights" to keep a division there. put a label on it, divide it up. this goes for a LOT of fluff stuff on the hill, not just gay rights. just the one that game to mind.

Totally agree. I mean, who can possibly question your logic after we went into Vietnam and easily won....

Oh, wait...

Do you have any idea how messy drone strikes are? Do you have any idea how many civilians and innocents are killed when we hit targets in the Middle East? Check it out...

http://drones.pitchinteractive.com/

Now, imagine conducting a drone strike in a heavily urbanized area inside the United States. Take a moment to consider the lives lost and the damage to infrastructure. The government needs both people and infrastructure to consolidate its power and maintain its economy.

In Vietnam, we didn't give two shits about blowing up infrastructure and we killed a number of civilians and innocents. Yet, we still didn't win...despite our vast technological advantage.

Gun rights are another. Just look at it working here

The other thing to consider is not just the President but Congress. I saw a stat a year or so ago about Congressional approval ratings. I don't recall the exact numbers, but it basically said something along the lines of only 30% of the US was happy with the job Congress was doing but something like 75% were happy with the job their Congressman was doing. Gotta protect your pork. Nothing will ever change with that mentality

The solution would be to make drugs legal. That stops the cartels and the mexicans in their tracks.

No, I know he sucks and he needs out of office. I was just sayin...

Next guy in is going to stick it in Americas butthole too. We're basically screwed until the public revolts. But that'll never happen because this country is a bunch of soft, content, oblivious jackwagons. Present company included.

Most Americans believe the solution to our problems are as simple as right or left... what a dumb nation of people we've become.
