Have to give him “some” credit.

The players have sold into what he is preaching. They play hard.

A great O-line doesnt hurt either.

Really not hard to get the defense to play hard. Just continually preach that everyone thinks you suck and hopefully it will get their blood boiling.

Seems that's what happened.

I wouldn't say it's necessarily that easy, but Marinelli is the one who's done it -- not Garrett.

I can't give Garrett credit because for a number of years we saw him lose games with some of the most ridiculous decisions/playcalling and a complete lack of awareness. He looked lost on the sidelines.

Does he give good speeches? Sure. I'll give him that.

But the reason our offense has improved is because we took his playcalling away. Hardly an indictment of what a good coach he is.

Which games this season do you think he did that? Do you think he has improved?

The play calling was taken away from him two seasons ago and the offense still sucked. I dont think its that simple.

I dont know what to make of Garrett honestly. I wish i knew more of the inner workings and who is making these decisions. From what i know Garrett was involved in many of the hirings. The focus on running game was something Garrett wanted to do according to Linehan.

Many of our complaints have been silenced for the most part. Offense and defense dont look confused on each play. Not as many dumb pre-snap penalties. Not a lot of off the field stuff other than the underwear thing by Randle. The players say all the right things to the media and dont create bulletin board material.

If this was Garretts first year, how would we assess him? Other than not going for it on 4th and inches, i dont think he has done a bad job this season.

I think Garrett has decent ideas. Many are recycled ideas from good coaches but that's not a bad thing. Removing him from the offense was critical because although I think he wants to the right thing (run the ball more), he can't help himself and gets pass happy. Plus I think he gave Romo too much leash and let him get pass happy

I still think Jerry forced him out of the offense and he deserves credit for that

I think my biggest beef with Garrett is he wasted good years of Romo, Witten and Wares careers figuring out how to be a HC and pissing around on offense.

How can anyone watch 35 minutes of that crap?

Anyone seriously thinks speeches like that are why we're winning this year?

Not this year.

I think his role with the team has been diminished, and the team has benefitted as a result.

I think we have a great coaching staff with Linehan, Marinelli, Callahan, and a few other assistants. Head coach is a major weakness, as is our special teams coach.

If it was his first year, I'd be impressed. But its not. Its his fifth year. And he's made an ass of himself the previous three. Again, the team improved because his role diminished. I think the team will be good as long as he has a stud group of assistants around him - propping him up. Weekend at Bernies.

Hey Man, he is the head coach. He took his team from the 8-8 doldrums to the heights of 12-4. Won four more games than last year, by doing less. All the other candidates for this, did more. Therefore Garrett should win.
And besides, it was his idea to bring back the Landry Hitch.

Ahh I ignored that before! Where's your charitable spirit? Obviously there are SOME here who think Garrett should get some cred for what's happened. Maybe even the COY award. And in fact that encompasses most DC fans out there in the innerwebs.

Haters gonna hate though, so there's that. I'm a Manziel hater, and the idiot midget recently proved me exactly right about him. So it's not all bad - Garrett might lay a great big egg in a playoff game now, freezing his own kicker or something, to prove all you Garrett haters right!

Then again, he might be hoisting a Lombardi with Jerruh in 5 weeks too.

Umm, no. The sole reason for the offensive improvement and yes, the "improvement" of this mostly inept defense too is, Tony's surgically repaired back - making featuring the run a must, not some fanciful magical idea or some epiphany gained from watching 90s Cowboys tapes. Turning to the run this season wasn't good coaching or a change in philosophy or strategy, it was a necessity to keep Tony upright. To reduce his risk. It was just, common sense.

And it improved the entire performance, not just the offense.

Garrett definitely has the least power and influence of any coach in the playoffs right now. Credit does go to Stephen or whoever brought in actual, experienced coaches to guide the talent on this team. I definitely agree with whoever stated that the main issue has been wasting away Ware, Romo and Witten's careers. This team was on the brink in 2006 when Parcells left, and I definitely think they could have been perennial contenders like New England since that time. Garrett has been the main obstacle preventing success here.

He deserves coach of the year about as much as Cutler deserves QB of the year.

JFC, this guy doesn't deserve to wear a headset, he definitely doesn't deserve COY honors.

Check that headset, I'll bet money there's no batteries in it.

Some people will never be satisfied. We finally have what we all hated Garrett for; results. Give your agenda a break for a few weeks and enjoy the playoffs. Then, you can go back to being miserable again.

What are you going on about?

I can be amped about the team and still despise the guy who is just along for the ride. You could literally replace Garrett with that faggy little grandson fuck, you'd still win 8 games with Romo at QB.
