I'll freely admit that before Bill Parcels joined this team it appeared there was no plan other than, "Let's try winning it this year."
Bill seemed to bring the idea that a team that contends year after year needs to have a master plan. A master plan that may not mean for a winning team this year or next, but at some point it should be a team that can potentially content year after year.
Make no mistake, the trade of Crayton was a Parcell's-like move. Bill believed in moving the older player to make room for the younger player. Bill believed in making cuts, not based on where the player was at during training camp, but where that player would be at the end of the season.
If this was "Old" Jerry, then Crayton would be on the team until it was time to bury him.
Keep a 31 1/2 year-old WR whose making more money than he's worth as a #4 receiver (and who no longer plays special teams) or keep a much younger receiver who showed some spark last year and is superior athletically (Ogletree). OR release a promising defensive lineman who looks like he can play DE or NT. OR release a young safety who seems to have good feel for the position and is excelling on special teams.
Right now this team is light at corner and TE. Keep Crayton and another position starts looking light. Not too mention Ogletree loses more reps.

Oh, and again....keeping Crayton doesn't effect Ogletree unless you want it to.
Last I checked Patrick Crayton doesn't control his playing time.
It's real simple for me. Quality depth for this year or a 7th round pick.
